Vegas bound. Any ideas?

The Vegas of my first trip bears almost no resemblance to what's there today. In some way I dunno if that's a good thing.

Now matter what they do to it, Vegas always holds the overwhelming potential for drunkeness, degradation and shame.
    That's what makes it great.

No doubt, just way, way more expensive now to do it. There were some great dumpy bars back then.

The Bellagio's the Bellagio, but God, do I miss the Dunes. The absolute,
prototypical Mob Joint. The seafood joint where they took you out on
a gondola to seat you at your table amidst an indoor pool was beyond
    compare, for sheer kitsch.

Staying at the Vegas World, which had no sports book, I found myself spending plenty of time playing the ponies, dogs, sports whatever at the Sahara. Didn't mind that, or the cheesy space motif of Bob Stupak's joint.

I have yet to go out to Las Vegas, but I definitely want to make a point of it soon.

I just got back, and I realized how different Vegas is for different people. I saw all these folks who got all dressed up and looked at Vegas a place to go out to fancy dinners and clubs, yada yada; and then there are the young people who just want to go and drink and lay in the sun and gamble and hook up.

And there are guys like me, who just want to throw on a cap and shorts and not shave for three days, sitting at a poker table with a bunch of other degenerates. :)

A former GF and I went for a long weekend with another couple once, and it was a very strange dynamic.
The GF and other couple wanted to walk up and down the strip. They wanted to check out every new casino.
All I wanted to do was sit down and play while lapping up free bourbon.
It was a very strange weekend.

Some people don't really like to gamble and swill free booze all that much.

    Shocking, I know.

    It was shocking.
It was about eight years ago, give or take, so I was probably 32.
I was absolutely shocked that anybody would go to Vegas with the intent of walking around to look at stuff.

I saw a father/daughter doing that. He compromised by playing blackjack for about an hour in each different casino so she could either play or look around.

My sister-in-law recently asked my wife if the four of us could go to Vegas together sometime so my wife could show her how to have fun without gambling.
Works for me ... and my brother.
