Anyone ever been to the LAX club at Luxor? How does it compare to any others you've been to?

I have never stayed anywhere but TI. I like stay there because the rooms have been remodeled, like the places to eat in there and just feel comfortable there. A buddy of mine is trying to get us to go there for the TCU-UNLV football game on Halloween weekend. He wants to stay downtown at the Golden Nugget or the Frontier. I have never been downtown. Just would be for the Thursday to Monday. How does staying downtown compare to staying on The Strip. I know I can go to The Strip if I want too, but I have a feeling all the guys will probably just hang around downtown. Any advice?

this is why i gave it up.

in the argument about affecting/not affecting the deck/shoe, try thinking of blackjack over your lifetime as circular and not linear, like one VERY large thoroughbred track. yes, you or others may make moves early or late in the race that could affect your outcomes, but in this analogy you will NEVER reach the finish line -- that is, we will never reach the 'long term,' because we can never see enough hands, whereas the casino is ALWAYS playing in the long term.

which is a long-winded way of saying, except for single- or double-deck counting, what we do is essentially irrelevant the way the game is run today.

Played the other day. Guy to my right would never hit on 15 or 16. But he doubled with a 7 twice -- once against a 3.

    Two times I was doubling 10s or 11s and he wouldn't hit his 15/16 against a 8/9.

I got his 5 one time and 6 the other. The next guy got my face card.

I know it's random. It's just weird how some people play.

Opt for Lavo at the Palazzo or The Bank at the Bellagio, instead. Stay away from Pure at Caesars.

On a side note I love how this thread never ceases to be resurrected. Vegas is my escape. :)

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't hesitate (and often don't) to stay downtown. In particular for a weekend getaway / "event" type of stay. Having said that, it's NOT the strip.

Your hotel options are as different as possible. Western is a dump. Period. There are some folks that find something cool about that...but not me. The Nugget is very nice, a real gem, particularly for the cost. Incredible pool, good food options, nice (albeit small) sports book. I've stayed there a number of times, won't hesitate to do it again.

As for the downtown "experience", we look at our trips this way. The Strip is for the resort / resting / eating / people watching portion of our trips..... downtown is for gambling. Downtown is lower table limits, better (still not spectacular) table rules, cheap poker tourneys & people who are in town to play (as opposed to pose).

Don't want to bore folks with descriptions, so feel free to PM me.

The Nugget has the best standard rooms of anyplace, downtown.

Thanks guys were are pretty much going to gamble and go to the game. But I still love The Strip. Call me crazy but I can go to the Bellagio, watch the fountain show for an hour, go to the buffet there, and then just walk around and I'm a happy guy.
I was going to take a girl I know with me but she has her niece's sixth birthday party that weekend. If she were going, staying on The Strip would have been the way to go. She has never been to Vegas and seriously all the really good stuff in my opinion is on The Strip.

Yes but he was hitting on 15 all day. It wasn't until he actually had a big hand out there that he stayed. His big wad a cash had him spooked, so he changed the rules, which is no way to win. I feel like if you are going to stay on 15 - do it all the time, not just once and a while.

Playing stupid is playing stupid whether it's once in a while or all the time.

  12. I came back about a week ago. Did a bachelor party, so it was pool parties in the day and clubs every night. We hit Ditch (pool party at the Palms) and Rehab (pool party at Hard Rock). Clubs, we did Tao (Venetian), Surrender (Encore at the Wynn) and Haze (Aria).

I'm getting a little old for the club scene I suppose but I was just not overwhelmed. Surrender was pretty cool and Haze is pretty impressive but I was a much bigger fan of the pool parties. Those are essentially clubs that go all day and involve pools and girls in bikinis. And the ratio of girls to guys is about four girls for every one guy. If you're young and single, it's definitely the way to go. Especially if you have a group and can afford to get a cabana. Just an amazing scene.
