Vegas bound. Any ideas?

Wow! I remember 10-12 years ago when the coffee shop was open 24/7. I'd go in there after a drunken night of gambling and go to town (since my buddy was a high roller and it was comped). Never saw Folies but I was shocked at how good Jubliee was. Did not expect that at all.

Saw both Follies and Jubilee, back in the day. Trop's version was a bit more moth-eaten, but both were fine, for what they were and are. Would I go for a second helping? Likely not.

I can see a coffee shop closing 2-4 PM or so, out there, if it came to that. Better that than being closed at any time during graveyard, when the place can be a lifesaver.

Jack Binion carried on a lot of his Dad's ways in the Horseshoe-branded casinos he ran outside Nevada, but then he sold his company to Harrah's and ... sigh.

Thinking about staying at Harrah's later this year. Bad idea?

Had a friend stay at Palazzo from Thursday to Sunday this weekend. He played 19 hours with an average hand of $91. His wife played 11 hours at $86 a hand. He was comped one night a $50 toward food.

The worst games in town, for a major chain. Absolutely horrid video-poker pay tables. Terrible carryover rules for comp-card carriers. A must to avoid, if you have any decent options.

In their defense (and it's the only one): this past weekend was a huge one, and they probably didn't feel they had to give away shit.

But were I you, I'd call them, tell them what you thought of such treatment, tell them you were reconsidering your relationship with the property, and ask them if this is the kind of treatment you might expect, going forward. I'm sure they'll refer to the fact it was the first big March Madness weekend. Note that you'll be coming back when it's quieter, too, but a repeat performance will result in a Hasta La Vista.

Given their costs, being tightfisted with food comps with good customers is marketing insanity.

The wedding is across the street at Caesar's. I figured I'd just be crashing in the rooms there. I've never done Vegas though. Should I sleep where I plan to gamble and hang out?

If willing to spend the money for a higher-end place, or an expense account that is, I'd give the new Cosmo a very high rating. Great location, great rooms, good vibe on the casino floor and in/around the retail and restaurant areas. And you won't get lost; it's built vertically so it's not a maze to get from check-in to your room to anywhere. Heard some horror stories about check-in problems, but had no issues.

I seem to wind up gambling where I'm staying ... but I'm old.
Just too convenient. You're drinking, playing, you get tired or tired of losing, it's just easier to call it a night and head to the elevators instead of having to walk, cab or drive back to where you're staying.

This gets tricky. The Harrah's/Imperial Palace area to which you refer boasts a LOT of night street traffic, and if your room isn't thoroughly soundproofed and you're exposed to those elements, you're going to have a sucky experience. I would think that the best reasonably-priced rooms in the area would be at Bill's (ex-Barbary Coast), on that corner. That's another Harrah's joint, regrettably, but you're still across from Caesars, and I always liked their rooms. When are you going? If you're going when it's warmer, and you're going during the week, Caesars rooms might actually be reasonable, and some of those are great.
