Is anyone familiar with the South Point Casino? I know it's not close to the strip, but I'm thinking of going to Las Vegas in July and found quite a nice price there.

For my friend it has nothing to do with importance. He can play big dollars at blackjack but he is still going to use coupons and work bargains.

He still hasn't spent his Bar Mitzvah money.

Troop, as a convert to LV "locals" casinos, the SP has become our regular place to stay. It has a couple of drawbacks (location, for one....but it's really not that far), but we really like the place. Shoot me a PM, with specific questions. We'll be there in July, as well....

A year ago, we decided to go to Outback Steakhouse, which is attached to Casino Royale in front. Parked in the back and had to walk through the casino to get to Outback.
Total shithole. The elevator up to Outback wasn't working, but there was no sign on it to tell you that. Unfinished drywall everywhere, signs hanging from nails in the drywall, dusty and filthy.
Funny, whenever you experience some craphouse, you wonder why anybody would go there. But you just know that there are people out there who think it's the greatest place in the world.

Much obliged, sir. I will fire off a PM once I line up the questions.

Every dollar "earned" in comps is a dollar that's not coming out of your gambling roll. So if you have a set amount you're prepared to lose -- and you should, because odds are you're going to lose -- then you have a set amount of gambling entertainment you can afford. Dollars not spent on rooms, food, drinks, etc. allow you to stretch that entertainment dollar.

Do these places still do mailings? If you don't get invitations back with all the freebies up front, forget it. I had an amazing run of free mailings at Palazzo/Venetian for years, gambling far less than the numbers above. Didn't get cut off until someone realized I wasn't really a high roller.

Been 3 years since I stayed at the Venetian, paid full fare for a weekend room that time because we decided we wanted to stay in the same hotel as the show we wanted to see -- Blue Man Group in this case.
When I signed up for their players club -- Club Grazie, or something like that -- I got $25 slot play. The place was too expensive for me.
I still get e-mail deals from them, but the best they do is $129/night midweek for rooms.

I'm aware of Adelson's attitude. If he's got a sucker list that strong, more power to him. And I'm also aware that the town's tightened up a bit in recent years -- corporate ownership will do that. My standard remains: There are places which are dumps, where I won't stay. Other than that, if the food and games at a resort don't suck, I can be had. Bid away, boys.

just to stir it up, do we know what kind of room the guy had at the palazzo? my back-of-the-envelope calculation had him at $1380 in comps (100 hands hour/40 percent house edge back in comps). maybe he stayed in a two-bedroom suite or something. Course hge may have actually run much more money through pit than what i calculated (100 hands an hour pretty conservative guess).

as for offers, i must literally receive six a week between MGM Mirage and Harrahs between snail mail and email -- i haven't been in vegas since last june, so there's still a lot of mailing going on.

for the guy with the wedding at casears, the good news is if he stays at ballys he can gamble at caesars and still benefit. i don't know if bill's takes total rewards or not.

It's e-mail now. MGM Grand Detroit and Bill's Gamblin Hall and Saloon are the only places that send me stuff in the mail. The rest of the MGM and Harrah's properties e-mail me about everything else.

Your formula was quasi-legitimate, back in the day. Unfortunately, the likes of Adelson now laugh at it. His stores are VERY well-positioned for convention business, for which the room rates are held at smash-and-grab levels. I have relations who've worked for Adelson, and he does not hire morons, but his attitude towards the decent middle-high-market customer is currently very high-handed, and he needs to be taken down a peg or three.
