Vegas bound. Any ideas?

Bartenders treating customers like dicks? Tell me that isn't so. But yeah, I could imagine it. You could do some work on a $20 bottomless happy hour.

 

If they see you standing at the bar with a wristband, you're hanging out for 10 minutes while they help the "paying customers." Especially if you're a dude. On the plus side, yeah, if you want to put down 10 drinks for $20, you can't find a better deal. Good way to kick the night off.

 

I wonder if "Las Vegas Adviser" still has the coupon for free drinks for two for an hour at Ellis Island? Now that bartender was cool as hell. Talked all kinds of shit to me and my buddy the entire time. "I've never seen anyone drink less during their free hour than you guys. C'mon, don't be THOSE guys."

When I head back to Vegas, I will hit up Ellis Island again. Loved that place.

 

I'm headed back to Vegas for the first time in a few years. Does anyone know if MGM Grand still has the mechanical horse race game? I think the last time I was there I took a $10 roll of quarters and played from 1 a.m. to about 6 a.m. with four of my buddies. After about 2 a.m., the cocktail waitress was stopping by every 20 minutes to make sure we were good on drinks, which led to one of the drunkest nights I've ever had in my life.

That thing is so out of place among all the electronic bells and whistles you see now, and yet, it's one of the most addictive games I've played. The first time I ever sat down at one was at the Hilton, but I'm pretty sure that's long gone. The only place left that I know of is the MGM Grand, but it's been a few years and I've got to imagine that sooner or later, it's going to disappear.

 

I have an unexpected weekend off, and looked at flight prices. Not going to Vegas that weekend!
I plan on going in the next year or so, and will rely on this thread. A ton of good info.

 

Aaahhh yes, the much beloved Sigma Derby machine. Home of many a cheap buzz to either begin....or end....a long night of gambling.

As of October, it was still operating at the MGM. Same spot as always.

 

Ah, the awesome Sigma Derby. I remember my brother cleaning up on that at Bally's - I think - when we were out there for the Holyfield-Douglas fight. I went through my bankroll very quickly and ended up drunk at the bar watching him rake the coins in with both hands.

 

I'm heading to Vegas soon. Anything cool going on there that might not be obvious from going to Vegas.com or other sites?

check out "Absinthe," a sort of adult version of Cirque in a beer tent outside Caesars. Missed it when i was there last month, but every review says it's fantastic. Happily i'm back in two weeks so I'll try to grab it then.

 

In a "how's that working for you, Sheldon?" followup, the Venetian and Palazzo gambling revenues went off a cliff as a result of the new no comps approach...
