Watch the fountains for 15 minutes and it "been there, done that." And you can do it for free all night, any night from the sidewalk. Or, have an expensive dinner at the Paris Eiffel Tower, which is across the street from the fountains and most of the tables are set up to view the fountains. You'll get the fountains and a great meal, too. Sounds like an awful lot of money to stay at the Bellagio just for the purpose of seeing the fountains.
Man, you've been fretting over this trip for months. Might be time to just sit back and enjoy.

Central KY: The rooms aren't great (they're time share condos) but the Jockey Club was like $90 a night and my coworker got a Bellagio view room. He could see the fountains.

Probably not great for a honeymoon, but it does have a kitchenette and a fridge and all that.

    SoCalDude,

You're right. I think I'm more worried about the honeymoon instead of the actual wedding! Although, I already have the ring and all four tuxes (mine, my dad's, her dad's and my best man's) already paid for. So financially and decision-wise, I'm in the clear as far as the wedding goes.

    imjustagirl,

I looked at the Jockey Club. Polo Towers, too. Would NOT have broke the bank to stay there.

It's strange, but the last two times the future wife and I have vacationed together, they were condos with kitchens and living room. Barely used the kitchen at all, but we just like having more space (i.e. separate living room to chill on couch and watch TV).

  4. How the hell can you afford this making $11/hr?

    I love the cross thread.

Honestly, I have no car payment (other than insurance and gas, but no monthly payment to dealer that is). No house payment (I will when we move in together in June). Eat most meals at house. Don't really do too much driving (although gas prices in Kentucky are still in 3.40 range). My insurance covers most medical things. I do have a cheapo cell phone (non-smart phone, it's a samsung slider without internet), but I do have an ipad (with bluetooth keyboard) that I pay 19.99 a month for internet.

As far as the trip itself, my parents paid for our honeymoon flights and rental car. So there's $700 out of the way.

And my tax refund took care of the tuxes (190 each times four equals 760). The wedding ring wasn't that expensive (she picked it out. She wanted one that was only like 300 or so).

We're having a smallish wedding. 60 people total. No band. No ring bearer, flower girl, bridesmaids or groomsmen to worry about. Our wedding party is 4 (Me, her, my best man is my younger brother and her maid of honor is a mutual friend who introduced us). My uncle is a ordained minister (who just so happens to know her as well as her parents), so there's no expense there.

Might not even have a rehearsal dinner. Partly because her dad can't get off work. Partly because I might have postseason softball that week (my main spring beat and we're already spread thin as is).

She has a family member taking care of the cake and photos. Got the wedding site for like 400. We're having an evening wedding, so we're not doing the full meal for food.

FWIW, she is a manager at McDonald's within walking distance of me. Makes a lot more money than I do.

consider hotels fronting bellagio: cosmo, paris, planet hollywood. you'll get the view and from the cosmo maybe the music too.

I'm a big fan of the $20 trick. It's always worked for me in Vegas, most importantly at mid-level joints like the Flamingo where you can otherwise get stuck in a faraway room with no view.

Heck, I even dropped a $20 at the Holiday Inn Express in Pacifica, Calif., once to ensure a seaside room for a six-night work trip. Totally worth it.

Leaving the snow and heading south soon. Any new restaurants open over the last year that are worth checking out? Help / tips appreciated. Thanks.

Don't go to the Quad, it's just the Imperial Palace in disguise.

Just got back from Vegas, and the new buffet at Caesars is getting good reviews. I gather that a lot of the stuff there is made to order. There are new Gordon Ramsay places at Caesars (pub) and Planet Hollywood (burgers), as well as a Nobu at Caesars. The only new place I checked out was Project Pie, which is in that weird underground section of the MGM that leads to the parking garage. It's basically an assembly-line setup -- you pick your ingredients, then they cook the pizza in a super-hot oven. Takes about 2 minutes. Wasn't bad at all.

yeah, i agree with this. i go to vegas about every 2-3 years. never heard of the quad. walked in, looked like nothing special.

we paid about $600 for three nights at the venetian via priceline. when we went downtown, i gambled for a long time at the "D" and had a great run at the craps table there. they have a few of those quirky craps bets that you usually only see at non vegas casinos. the place was clean, clearly renovated but not overly cheesy, and a much better experience than i recall the fitzgerald being a few years back.
