Way to bump a thread with a lame movie reference to a trip long concluded.

Thank you. I was waiting for an opportunity to use the line on this thread.

Bumping this up because I get married in less than 24 hours in Kentucky (7:30 p.m. eastern Friday) and fly out Saturday afternoon to Vegas.

    Weather.com projected temps for the five days (four nights) I'm in Vegas: 99, 103, 102, 102, 101.

One of those days we'll be at the Grand Canyon, which should be a comfortable 83 degrees.

    I know, I know: It's a dry heat. :)

Eh, that's nothing. (Of course, I've lived in Phoenix for 18 years.)

Wear sunscreen and drink a lot of water. Otherwise, 100 in Vegas really isn't that bad. This time of year it really is pretty dry, and won't feel that bad. Later in the summer the humidity picks up and then it really sucks.

And on that note, I'll be there at the end of July and staying at the Riviera. Not the time of year or the hotel I would pick, but I'm looking forward to being in Vegas again.

    PCLoadLetter,

I was originally at Circus Circus!

Yikes. But with my original setup (2 non-stop tickets both ways, rental car and four nights), an air-car-hotel package with CC was one of the few I could get for less than 900 total.

Thru the wonders of VRBO.com, I was able to land a Jr. Penthouse Suite on the 34th floor on MGM Signature for 550 (138 a night).

    Not too bad.

That all being sad, my future wife would have been happy in CC or Riv, though.

You guys will have a blast. And in the heat, it won't take you long to find the ways to walk up and down the Strip without actually going outside.

Yeah, the Riv should be fine. We're in a renovated tower, which should help. My son is competing in the Rubik's Cube World Championship at the Riviera -- he's now ranked in the top 25 in the US, and yes, "cubing" has a governing body. I would've preferred somewhere else, but it really didn't make any sense to stay outside the Riv.

Vegas: Home to Rubik's Cube competitions and the International Swizzle Stick Collectors. Saw the ISSC thing on tripadvisor. I laughed.

Congrats to your son. Only time I beat a Rubik's Cube, I had to switch the stickers.

His average time in competition is about 12 seconds. Crazy.

I had no idea people collected swizzle sticks.

That is nuts. Curious as to how the brain works. Is he a math or science wiz? A music prodigy?

Ducked into a downtown Chicago hotel once a few years ago, looking for a place to take a piss, and the Rubik's Cube competition was going on. Lobby was packed with kids practicing. Had no idea such an event even existed.

Thanks! Wedding is in 5 1/2 hours. Married in Kentucky tonight. Drive to Nashville afterward. Get there late (after midnight) and fly out 2 p.m. tomorrow. Be on the ground for less than 5 hours before Shania Twain concert at Caesar's Palace.

Then there's CDS Michael Jackson on Sunday night at Mandalay Bay, all-day Grand Canyon South bus tour on Monday and Blue Man group Tuesday night at Monte Carlo. Have flight back to Nashville on Wednesday afternoon, so we'll do something after checkout (Red Rock, Valley of Fire or Hoover Dam). Get back late Wednesday night/Thursday morning and I cover state softball Thursday evening about 90 miles away in Owensboro.

    Busy. But fun.
