A Manhattan should be made with rye.

Trop was kinda fun in the mid-80's. Then it went way downhill.

Then they took out all the tables and it was just slots and appeared to cater to blue-hairs (my wife and I went in there 10-15 years ago b/c we had some time to kill before our flight). It literally smelled like old lady.

Thanks for the update. I will definitely never step in there again.

Another quick example of Tropicana "policy" from a few years ago:
Four of us, we check in then meet at the bar next to the tower elevator for a drink and to plan the rest of the night.
We had two 2-for-1 drink coupons issued by the Tropicana. I went to the bar ordered 2 Daniels manhattans ($8 each) and 2 MGDs ($6 each).
So the bartender gets the drinks and said it's going to be $16. I said, no it's $14. We're paying for 1 manhattan and 1 beer. He said, it doesn't work like that, it's $16. You pay for the manhattans and the beers are free.
So, reasonable me, said, what if I had just ordered 2 manhattans, I'd get those for $8. Then if I came back a minute later and ordered 2 beers, it would be $6 .... yada yada yada.
He won't back down so I just said, "Look, this is wrong and YOU KNOW IT. You've pissed off a regular customer for TWO LOUSY BUCKS. Unbelievable."
And it seemed as though he didn't give a shit.

I'm actually quite happy with the Monte Carlo, but earlier had been talking about the Cosmopolitan. I walked through it for the first time on a work trip in April and was impressed. Also won $100 on a $5 free play, so that was cool. In any event, I'm excited for a lot of free food and my first time in Vegas during football season.

What should I expect at the sports book? I have seen it during a big horse racing weekend and it was nuts. Can't wait for Sunday morning.

Then that's what you should have done. When you buy one, get one, you always pay for the most expensive item.

Definitely. And if you take advantage of those shoe stores' Buy One Get One 50% Off, you pay for the most expensive pair of shoes, and you don't get the sale price that is on the tag either. Gotta follow the rules, or just don't use it.

And why would he give a shit? Sounds like you were acting like an ass over two lousy bucks. Pulling the regular customer card because he was following the policy? And if you really were a regular customer, how did you now already know this?

You paid for drinks in a casino? C'mon, spread a few bucks around the tables and take their free booze.

I understand all this. I'm not a fucking rube.
The bartender was acting like an ass over $2.
Sometimes you just want to sit down and relax, especially after driving for 5 hours. It's the only time (except wine with dinner) that we pay for drinks in Vegas.

I did my first football weekend in Vegas this past fall. Spent much of Saturday and Sunday in the Planet Hollywood book. Got there at 8 a.m. on Saturday for college and the crowd was more sparse than I expected. But by 9 a.m. kickoff all seats were taken. On Sunday, we arrived at 8 a.m. again and got the last three seats in the main section. It was packed to the gills all day.

Words of advice: Have a betting plan and get some of your plays in early. The lines move quickly, but by 9 a.m. on Sunday, you're looking at a 15-minute wait or more because of the lines. Also, if you're a casual gambler looking to make some plays and drink some drinks, know that you need to be playing $100 or more to get a drink tickets. And you need to ask for them. The right agent might give you 2-3.

It's an absolutely blast. Great energy. Eruptions on big plays and as halves/games wind down. Amazing stuff. Really can't duplicate the experience. And it didn't hurt that the books took a bath the Sunday I was there. Walked away with a nice profit (that I proceeded to give back at the tables!).

My college friends go one weekend a year for football betting - we've gone to most of the books. MJP is right about an NFL Sunday morning - have your bets planned out, and have them picked by 9:15. You do not want to deal with the lines close to 10:00am.

College isn't as popular and kickoff times are so spread, its not an issue.

Caesars properties, particularly PH and Caesars itself stick to that $100 rule. I bet like $35 on stupid baseball props this summer at Bally's though and got some drink tickets. I don't think the guy gave a shit.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I get in on Thur, so I will make sure to bet on NYJ/NE - the Thur game. Might also just go on Saturday to watch/ UM steamroll Akron or whatever cupcake they have that week. The girlfriend isn't too into my fantasy football or sports betting addiction so I don't know how much time I will have on Sunday to check the games.
