Exactly. That was about the time I fell off the comp list.

  2. I like the Rio very much, but the table limits there are getting prohibitive.

The good thing about Harrah's ownership is that you can play at other Harrah's casinos, stay at the Rio and still get comped there. Harrah's, Bill's and Flamingo are a bit more reasonable, table-limit wise, than the Rio.

And here's another thing that bugs me about Vegas now -- single-deck blackjack that pays 6-to-5 on a natural. And casinos trumpet that, like it's a great deal. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to math, but I do believe 3-to-2 pays better than 6-to-5.

The Rio has retired all trophies in town for having the nicest property with the worst games on Planet Earth.

  4. The games themselves are OK, mostly (they still have decent double-deck BJ). The prices are just absurd.

Complete bull. I can't believe people put up with that.

The supposed reason is that it is "easier" to win at single deck (counting cards, etc). I guarantee you, 99.95% of the people playing don't take advantage of whatever single deck has to offer... and whatever advantage you get, if any, doesn't come close to the 60% decrease in payout bonus for hitting 21 on two cards.

People are sheep to play that.

Anybody ever stayed at the Venetian?
My wife, kid and I are going for our 20th anniversary. I booked there because they wanted to see the Blue Man Group.
Any dos or don'ts associated with the Venetian???

I've stayed at the Venetian. The marble floors in the bathrooms get very slippery when they get wet. Seriously. Be careful.

Other than that, I had a good stay there.

  8. Way out of my price range.

But I've heard good things about it.

Venetian owner Sheldon Adelson is consistently one of the nation's largest contributors to the GOP.

If you wish to support his act . . . be my guest.

I felt it was way pricey, too, but for a special occasion, I went for it, mostly because of the convenience of the show being at the same hotel we're at.
Weird thing, we stayed at the Rio last time and I get specials in the mail frequently from them. They are having a $59/night special the weekend we're going. I was very tempted, but then decided to spend four-times more because of the above reason.
Your comment about hearing good things about it, any examples?

One of my personal rules is not to talk politics because I think the jobs simply are too hard and NOBODY can do them well.
It wouldn't even dawn on me, when trying to decide on a place to stay, to research the politics of the ownership and have that figure into the decision. Would you NOT stay at a particular hotel because of alleged Mafia connections? Damn, I just stayed at the (FILL IN BLANK). Does that mean I support organized crime?
When I made my reservation, there was no mention of being required to vote for Republican candidates.
