Audiophiles might be the most pedantic motherfuckers on the face of the Earth.

I love music. I don't need lab clarity when I listen to it. I have a JVC receiver I got in 1991, mini-speakers from the mid-90s that fit and are spaced perfectly in our entertainment center and a used 90s vintage Technics record player I bought about five years ago at the almighty Record Exchange in St. Louis. I replaced the stylus, but apart from that, I'm perfectly content with all of it.

Audiophiles suck the life out of the enjoyment of music. It can't be a fun existence. I question sometimes whether the music matters at all to them. The quest for sonic perfection seems to overwhelm all and sundry.

I will say I enjoy listening to an album in the order it was meant to be enjoyed. Spotify is great for the car, but for my office, I like going back in time.

That said, what’s a good gift card to get for albums?

In the early '80s I used to shop a lot of record riots, cutout bins and other discount sources for LPs. I think I found this at a Portage, Wis., Value Village -- why they had it, I'll never know. I got quite a look from the farm wife running the cash register in the checkout lane.

Amoeba Records is a solid one. They have a good selection and shipping is free in the US.

You could also check out Zia Records, Plaid Room, or Bull Moose.

My brother used to shop at a store that sold, like, 5 albums in a pack for a few dollars, but you bought them blind. I don't think my brother found any gems

I thought Tipper Gore banned that album.

This album cover is justly notorious, but it's actually a really good album. Duane Allman plays on it.

Toronto had loads of great record stores in my vinyl days, Sam the Record Man (KING of downtown record stores here), Vinyl Museum, Incredible Record Store, Kops, Cheapies and loads of others but my fave record place anywhere might have been Peaches, especially the location written about here which was a mandatory stop on South Florida vacations:

I remember when you could get 13 albums for a penny.
