W.C. Heinz for Red Smith Award (2007)

This is no withdrawal, but you know what struck me today? It's almost as if this is kind of backwards, in some sense.

Red was one of the best; but maybe he should have won the W.C. Heinz award, you know what I mean?

 

I'm honored to add my name to this list. If you care at all about the history of those who came before you, please take the time to vote here, and read the profile of Bill in another thread. There is no one more worthy of this award than he.

 

One of the revelations to me, in reading the Best American Sports Writing of the Century book, was the work of Heinz.

The guy was/is, in the board's lingo. a freaking stud.
