Ernest Hemingway, the author, arrived home yesterday and told reporters that for the present he had forsaken the bull-fighting arenas of Spain for big-game hunting. Mr. Hemingway, accompanied by his wife, returned on the French liner Paris after a three-month safari in Kenya Colony, East Africa.

The author spoke enthusiastically of the trip and of several encounters with African lions. The animals can cover a hundred yards in three seconds, he said, adding that "they are upon you before there is any time to act."

"The lion is a fine animal," Mr. Hemingway remarked. "He is not afraid or stupid. He does not want to fight, but sometimes man makes him, and then it is up to the man to shoot his way out of what he has got himself into."
