My old apartment fucking rocked! That's three things!

We'll just have to agree to disagree. I thought Louisville had some cool, distinctive neighborhoods, it didn't strike me as expensive at all (I lived in the city at $18K a year back in the day), and I'm old school, so I like my old Bardstown Road hangouts.

    Agree to disagree.

Louisville is a great place to live. And very inexpensive, comparatively.

OK, I'm changing my mind. Jonesy, move to Louisville.

That way, I'll have someone to hit Caesar's Indiana with since I can no longer go with my brother.

If you're thinking about Louisville, think harder about St. Louis. It's got all the good points, only bigger and more (and yes, I've lived there, so I may be biased).
It can be nasty humid in the summer, but has very nice springs and falls and winter, by the standards of anyone from the Northeast, Midwest or Canada, is wimpy.
If you're not a drug dealer, it's as safe as any other big city.
It's at the confluence of our two greatest rivers (though that may not be the type of water you're thinking of)
    It has a fine airport.
Inspiration strikes in the faded glory of our nation's most historic cities, in the sun hitting off the brick that everything is made of, in the smell of the brewery on a crisp morning, in gorgeous parks and neighborhood bars and that weird Arch on the riverfront, and in the funky, grassroots, Americana creativity of the place. Tornadoes, at least in the STL metro, are rare.
It's not too Christian if you don't drift out too far west into "Missourah."
And housing is a steal, especially in the city proper. With what you save, you can send the young Joneses to one of the many fine Catholic schools.

But if the coasts are more your bag, Portland and Providence are Seattle and Boston without all the hassle. Also, Portland, Maine, is awesome, if you can take the winters.

Um, dirty college girls who sit on street curbs are yummy now?

I must have missed the memo.

  7. Not the memo, but my point. (I was illustrating your comment ;) )

    Thank god.

I thought you had a thing for dreads, and it was going to devalue your wife's crush on Spurrier if she hadn't showered in years.

I'll agree with everything said about Charlottesville. It might come the closest to meeting all the criteria.

Does the sun not shine in Louisville? Those chicks are awfully pasty.

How about Alabama? Oh. I thought this was a thread on where NOT to live. My bad.

Hmmm. Charlottesville is pretty damn nice. Good college town, not far from the beaches. Decent weather, although you will get snow there. You're within six hours of a ton of cities: Baltimore, D.C. Philly, NYC, Charlotte, Pittsburgh, maybe a few more I can't think of right now.

I really enjoyed Greensville, S.C. the time I was there a few years ago. I wouldn't mind ending up there one day. One of my favorite bar districts or whatever you call it. Decent food, good music, couple nice brew pubs.

Austin would be pretty cool, too, but it might be too far from the beaches for you, I don't know. I've always heard good things about Austin.

The Tidewater area in Virginia could be a safe bet.

Louisville beats St. Louis to hell and gone.

Reasonable living expenses, and among the most civil, courteous collection of citizens you'll encounter, anywhere.
