I'd suggest the Portland, Maine area, but then again, I wouldn't describe the climate as temperate.

Yeah. It's more like "really fucking cold."

Touche, mike. Though in the summer, there's not many nicer places to be.

Adding to Lakeland as a good port of call: Casinos are really close as well.

The coastline is gorgeous. There's no doubt about that. But even at night during the summer, it's freezing. At least it was the week I spent there in 1997.

I was in Portland in 2001 for my second 10-year high school reunion. I don't think it was freezing at night then, and it was August.

It can get a bit nippy there at night even in the summer, but I love cool, summer nights near the water.

You speak like you're from a magazine. I like that.

Remember that Jones lives in Ottawa, whose one distinction is that it gets more snow than any other world capital.

So, I would imagine that "temperate" is just about any place not at the North Pole.

Ottawa is probably going to break their previous snowfall record of 445 cm in one winter: that's close to 15 feet.

OK, now we're gonna get weird. Consider the town of my childhood, Wilmington, Delaware. Half hour from America's admittedly worst airport. Temperate climate. Housing glut, so prices should be OK (half-a-million will get it done). Schools, well, that's a problem, but there are good Catholic and private schools, including my alma mater. Beaches less than two hours away. Chesapeake Bay, ditto. NYC a short train ride.

Damn good points. I had no idea where hangs his hat, and now I find out the hat is made from a coon skin.

The South will eat him alive in July and August.

Bah, that's why God invented air conditioning.
