Moddy, since JetBlue has come to Richmond and the airport was redone, the Richmond airport is very good, IMHO.

Crime (really bad crime) in certain parts of the city and the lack of a local sports team (sans VCU hoops) if the Braves are not replaced are the two big negatives to Richmond.

I live just north of the city in Hanover, and my wife and I love it. We are about a par four from I-95 and can get to both Short Pump and Shockoe Bottom in about 15 minutes.

    shhhhhhhhhh.

What a strange twist - Boom as thomas wolfe and Jmac as knife salesmen. Just goes to show -- don't judge a book by its cover.

Just pick a state without income tax.
Think about all that money you'll save.

Boom, if you think Asheville is hippy central, don't venture up to Boone. Your head might explode.

Of the cities/states prominently mentioned, I like Maryland, Chattanooga, Louisville and Oxford -- which is cool and quirky and very writerly.

Also love Chicago. Not much experience with Kansas City but know folks who love it.

Airport does have free wireless. But if you are going somewhere JetBlue doesn't go, the fares blow and the parking is insane.
You can do a hell of a lot worse than Richmond, though. Virginia Beach in 90 minutes, D.C. in about two hours, lots of good shit right here.

I hate driving to the DC airports. Hate it like a sickness. You must be driving to Dulles at 2 am to get there in two hours from Richmond, plus, you can always have the traffic kill any travel plans you might of had.

The wife and I use a commuter lot that has free shuttle service in Richmond. It's about $6 a day. We have never had a problem with it.

It might be easier to book a flight through JetBlue to NYC, carry on your luggage and then just take the flight you need out of NYC.

Doesn't AirTran do a good bit of business out of Richmond as well?

Asheville is a kick-ass little town, but the airport situation won't work for Jones. But, man, the tea is so sweat. I've never had sweatier. ;D

I would put Savannah in the "nice to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there" camp. It's hot as balls in the summer and I wouldn't want to live downtown because of the crime. The public schools are shit, so unless you're shelling out for private school, you're screwed there.

I love Kansas City, but it might not be temperate enough for our man Jones. Awfully hot in the summer and awfully cold in the winter. Damn fine city, though.

Is there a perfect city? I'm not sure.
