That was solid, Dools. Just fucking solid.

    As for staying on topic:

Lakeland, Fla. isn't bad. You're 30 minutes from Tampa and 40 minutes from Orlando. Disney is 30 minutes away and there are several smaller communities around Lakeland on the I-4 corridor that are ideal for good living.

climate isn't too bad, but it is Florida so the humidity and the mosquitos are the two biggest things one should worry about on a pretty much daily basis. Throw in the occasional Hurricane and tornado and you'd have an area that would undergo a landscape change every 10 years or so :D

If I were looking for a college town, I'd probably pick Flagstaff. The Phoenix airport is a bit more than two hours away and you can get anywhere from there, plus it's a short flight to L.A. and Jones seems to have done some movie-star interviews in the past couple years.

If he wanted a college town with good access to NYC (via train, even), New Haven (Yale) and Princeton offer a lot of cultural things, cool shops and restaurants and an intellectual community. New Haven is on the water (Long Island Sound) and Princeton is about an hour from the ocean.

Annapolis has a lot of character, is on the water, is a college town and is close to D.C. and Baltimore for good airport access.

Dear Mr. Jones: They don't call us the Athens of America for nothing. Yes, it's expensive, and we do have a high jerk-per capita ratio. Why else would I live here?
Drove back from NYC today, and the under 25 guy at the Mass Turnpike toll booth where I got off the Interstate had OPERA on!! Don't get that in Naples, Fla.

As someone who will be wandering come May, this is a fantastic thread for possible destinations.

Finishing my time in my current job and am going to leave town. Just don't know where I'm headed yet. But I'm loving the suggestions here (even if they were made for Jones).

I lived in Vegas for two years and I loved it. I lived in the Seattle-area for 24 years prior to that and loved it there also.

Why? It pretty much fits every one of his criteria ... the airport requirement being the shakiest, but it's not some regional puddle-jumper airport either.

I loved Louisville when I lived there. Strikes me as a Jonesy kind of place to be.

It's dirty, expensive, and aside from Fourth Street Live or whatever in the hell that overpriced bar-crawling trap is called, it's ack.

The only good things about it: The Bats' stadium and the fact you're 20 minutes from casinos in New Albany.
