We Are Family only: RIP, Ed Ott

Ott was in a few dustups during his career. He spent the last year of his playing career with the Angels, and I was in attendance that season when the Angels and Indians had a brawl touched off when John Denny hit a batter and Ott and Rod Carew went after Denny. (FYI, this happens a couple weeks before Denny had his famous brawl with Reggie Jackson after Jackson had circled the bases on a homer).

After that he was a first-base coach for the Astros when the Reds' Rob Dibble touched off a bench-clearer with a HBP, and Ott had Dibble in a chokehold and turning blue at the bottom of the resulting pile of bodies.

So, no, I'm not particularly surprised he ended up a MAGA guy.
