Here's an interesting thought I just had.

Richard said that only the leader of the Others can request an audience with Jacob so that leads me to believe that all of the leaders have been given the choice Ben was given (to kill Jacob or not) and all have failed it, leading the anti-Jacob to proclaim that humans are so predictable and leading Jacob to say that there's only one end and everything else is progress.

With that being said, I can see the people Jacob interacted with coming back to the island via the way I mentioned above and Locke being given this chance and, if it works, disproving anti-Jacob's theory and changing things.

  2. My thought process on that is she was the only one of the flashback group who chose to go to the island.

Just read an interesting take on last night's episode on the LostPedia forum.

What do you guys think? I like it. it makes sense. I had completely forgotten about Ilana's visit with Jacob. Surely there was a reason for it right? I mean, she wasn't in 1977 like the other time-travelers.

Liked the beginning, in which Jacob was literally lying in the shadow of the statue, eating his fish and talking to his Adversary.

But . . . I was wondering if "what lies" has an emphasis on "lies."

Going back to whether or not Jacob is good or evil, the Master of Lies in whatever religion or mythology you subscribe to has often been said to be presented as a more attractive vessel, soft-looking and friendly. Preaching that, while "God has a plan for everyone," free will is much more fulfilling. And making it seem as though you have taken the better path, pampering you until he devours your soul.

So with too much time on my hands between now and January, I wonder: can "What lies in the shadow of the statue?" also mean "What does not tell the truth in the shadow of the statue?"

Of course, that could also mean Ben's role in this whole drama. Since he is indeed a master of lies.

(I am truly fearful at the things we can come up with during the next eight months of throwing things at the wall. This could be fun).

  5. Another thought that hit me in the shower.
I'm pretty sure Esau is the Smoke Monster or they're at least allies. That's why Locke disappeared just before he showed up to Ben and reappeared just after Alex/Smokey left.
If dead is dead, then Alex, Christian and Yemi are all manifestations of Smokey and/or Esau like Locke is. So, perhaps, not only did Esau tell Locke he had to die (through Richard) but he also confirmed it as Christian and, as Christian, told Locke to move the island (twice).
So is Claire duped by Esau, following him around because she thinks he's her father? Or is she dead (I don't know how she could have survived that explosion) and Esau can do two people at once? If so, what is gained out of having Claire and Christian just hanging out together?

But that would have Jacob and The Other Guy both inhabiting a Locke body at the same time, right? Like Locke puppet theater.

That's interesting. I'm trying to remember: When Sun and Lapidis met Christian in the old Dharma camp after their return to the island, Locke stayed outside, right? Were "Locke" and Christian ever together?
Same goes for the Ben and Smokey scene. At the time I just thought maybe Locke was giving Ben his space or something and didn't follow him in to the temple. But maybe he stayed out because he needed to be Alex and Smokey for a few minutes, to tell Ben to do whatever "Locke" said.

The Other Guy never actually inhabited Locke's body. He copied it.

Did I miss something? I've read a couple times now that Esau used Richard to convince Locke he had to die. I don't get that. Richard is Jacob's disciple. Richard said it. I think Jacob needs Locke's body.

Richard only told Locke he had to die because "Esau" (pretending to be future Locke) told Richard to say that.

hmmm. guess I need to watch again.

I need to do that myself.

I mean, think about it. Locke has more or less been dead for two seasons now (since the flashforward at the end of season 3). Everything he did after his "resurrection" was actually "Esau."

    Creepy.
