Remember our guessing game, discussion and analysis on what Egyptian god was depicted as the statue? Well, if you didn't pick it up from the season finale (it was a tough angle and honestly how many of us are ancient Egyptian experts), the statue is Tawaret.

Who is she? "the Egyptian goddess of birth, rebirth and the northern sky."

    And more details...

So, as the statue goes, so does the protection of the pregnant women. Hence all of their deaths, Juliet's reason to come to the Island, etc. It is my guess the statue was blown up during The Incident. There's no concrete date about its demise. Amy (that's her name, right?) berthed Horace's child in 1977. It seems that Juliet apparently detonating the Jughead, which probably was The Incident, destroyed the statue and subsequently caused the problems with the pregnant women, which brought her to the Island. I-RONY.

    That would be very interesting.

  3. It may also be Sobek.

I think Sobek. That was definitely a crocodile face.

And it makes sense. From his Wikipedia page:

"Sobek's ambiguous nature led some Egyptians to believe that he was a repairer of evil that had been done, rather than a force for good in itself, for example, going to Duat to restore damage done to the dead as a result of their form of death. He was also said to call on suitable gods and goddesses required for protecting people in situation, effectively having a more distant role, nudging things along, rather than taking an active part."

That sounds very Lost-ish to me.

That sounds a little Jacob-ish to me. The ambiguity part speaks to Widmore and Ben too.

It's not Sobek, guys. It's Tawaret.

ABC.com confirmed it and so did JJ Abrams in the recent Wired magazine.

Good enough for me then. Tawaret was a pretty common guess once we saw the back, but that sure looked like a crocodile face to me.

  8. Yeah, read the recap of the Incident here: http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/index?pn=recap#t=162212&d=201648

Tawaret is mentioned there. Also, Doc is apparently still working on his final column.

  9. I missed both of those. Interesting that they would clear up something that actually has a valid debate.

Another one of those questions — who was she/why was she in the mental hospital with Hurley? — that I can't see the show going back to answer in the final season.

They will answer it -- maybe in passing, but it is going to be resolved as it is too big of a mystery to just ignore.
