Jets would be out in a three-way tie. I assume conference record vaults Pittsburgh pass NY in such a scenario.

All I can see is that if both the Jets and Steelers win out, they'll also have identical conference and division records. But perhaps the author was just assuming the Jets will lose to the Pats?

It was stated on NFLN last night that the Jets are out in a three-way tie. Of course, the conversation didn't go any further.

Also saw a great weird stat on Twitter last night. Five times since 1993 the Jets have been 8-5 and subsequently missed the playoffs.

The Colts have lost their last two games by a combined score of 96-26. They are in first place in the AFC South, with a head to head and better division record edge on the Texans.

  6. How the hell did the Jags - The JAGS! - hang 51 on them? Sorry, that's not all on Hasselback. How many people saw the Colts divisional win streak come to an end against Jacksonville?

I only watched most of last night's game, but Watt was largely a non-factor and Clowney was non-existent.

How'd that bum Cam Newton do yesterday?

It's usually common opponents in those cases, right? That's the tiebreaker after conference record, anyway.

  9. If that's the case, why wouldn't the playoff standings list Pittsburgh in, instead of the Jets?

Because there are three more games left?

Because the Steelers have played one fewer conference game and are 5-4 in the AFC as opposed to the Jets, who are 6-4 in conference. If both win out, they will each be 8-4 in conference (Steelers with 3 AFC games left and the Jets with 2).

In reality, the probability of all three 8-5 teams winning out is low, very low.
