Eight starts is more than none, and it also includes three training camps.

And Grossman's problem is as much a matter of making flat-out bad throws as misreading defenses.

It's not like the Bears have no running game. And they may not have a tight end like Gates, but their wideouts are better than what San Diego has. And Neal is more of an advantage for Tomlinson than for Rivers.

If you want to argue that Rivers is an unfair comparison, fine (though he was damn impressive early this season against Pittsburgh when the Steelers shut Tomlinson down), but quit trying to pass Grossman off as a rookie. He isn't one.

But Grossman's been dealing with injuries so often, it's not like he's been out there at practice all the time. Rather than spending time throwing routes to receivers during offseasons, he's been rehabbing this or that. The time he spent at the Bears' complex in past years have hardly been quality time working with the team.

So while he's not a rookie and does have eight starts, I can also see where Grossman would be much further behind in his development compared to a Tony Romo, who basically focused all his attention to game tapes, playbooks and doing drills 12 months each year with teammates.
