I thought it was impossible for you to make yourself look like more of an idiot. I was terribly wrong.

Lol, life lessons from you. Brilliant. Pass me my putter caddy.

I've never, ever once said those words are ok, but I do remember you defending Hernandez character.

Yeah, but he wasn't white, so it's OK.

I grew up in Southern California and went to a high school that was majority Mexican, you New England moron.

    But let's unpack this.

There's no place for showboating and if you think a guy is playing soft, you'd better call him a f----t.

I love showboating. Take a look at last week's NFL thread, and my delight at the Antonio Brown celebration.

You've never really known anyone who's had to deal with real hate. I'm not talking people making fun of you because you're not one of the cool kids or because you wear hand-me-downs; I'm talking people hating you because of your skin color or the fact that you are gay. You've never talked to the quiet kids who came out after college and heard them explain to you why they didn't come out in high school.

I've been called a kike, to my face, on several occasions. I have met those words with a fist, which is absolutely the wrong thing to do, but I was immature at those times. I covered news and sports in the Bay Area, including several LGBT issues. I lived in San Francisco, which, I think, is a bit more diverse than your enclave in Rhode Island.

My original point was that there were a couple football people I follow who have no problem expressing how they love the old-time, dirty football players and think that's how the game is supposed to be played, but have a problem with what Odell Beckham did. You can't say dirty play in the 70s was OK and be against what Beckham did unless you're a hypocrite. Or, in some cases, slightly bigoted.

I wasn't born in the 70s, so I don't know what the fuck you're talking about. I don't glorify the old-time, golden-age nonsense. I'm the first one to usually pull out the "get off my lawn" line to mock those who do.

You're the worst kind of ninny, a white boy who thinks he's righteous when he thinks he's calling out any and all things he perceives as discriminatory, when in fact, you've eliminated any level of critical thinking from your brain.

But if the allegations of Norman's hate speech are true - and with several reports saying as much, it's looking pretty good - he wasn't wrong.

So, do you also assault people when they call you mean names? If you do, good luck defending that in court. Guess what? Calling someone a slur is wrong. Guess what isn't the appropriate response? Assaulting someone with your helmet, putting both that person and yourself in danger.

Well done, Snark. Seriously. I mean that for nailing Rhody and for saving me the time and effort. I'm sure he would have included me in his misguided rant if he had thought of it because I was the first one to call bullshit on his choice to bring race into this discussion.

He should realize that you've been met with bigotry for being Jewish, one of the many areas where you proved him wrong. So have I. Not only have I been on the wrong end of hate speech, I've been on the receiving end of violence for my faith. So on that point alone, Rhody needs to drink a big old mug of STFU.

You could apply that to many members of this board on many occasions. :)

I should address the thing about comparing Beckham's actions to guys like Lambert and Butkus since I think I'm the only one to argue with Rhody on that point. It is not like it was only white players who were dirty at that time. Joe Greene was every bit as dirty as Lambert. Probably worse, at least early in his career.

Of course, I also criticized a white player, Cody Wallace, for repeated dirty play on this very thread, bringing up the possibility of a suspension even though he starts for my favorite team. This was before I jumped into the Beckham discussion.

That said, there is a major difference in the level of dirty play that goes on in the game now from what happened when Butkus, Lambert and Greene played. If Rhody doesn't get that, he needs to remember that the NFL did exist before Tom Brady arrived.

He should have retired at the end of last season. It was obvious then.
