To all it may concern: Go back and look at old films. Overall play in the NFL was a hundred times dirtier in the '60s and '70s than it is now. We just see more of it today because there are more cameras and because of the use of multiple wideout offenses creates more visible battles. I mean, George Atkinson laughs at Norman and Beckham.

The difference between the bigots and you is you're engaging in a discussion and not calling names.
I wasn't making it about race. I was simply asking if anyone else felt uncomfortable about a bunch of old white guys who have an affinity for old-time, dirty football have a major problem with and young, flashy black man doing what he did. I don't think race was their primary factor in their screaming about Beckham, but it seems like it wasn't going to hold them back.
When you add on what Norman potentially said, Beckham's actions become excusable. You can scream "you can't assault someone for using words" because that's not what Beckham did. A dirty football hit isn't assault; if it is, so is any basic tackling. If you want to call what Beckham did assault, then you have to define what Norman did as a hate crime. Ridiculous? Yep. But calling a cheap shot in a football game is.
If Beckham is a closeted gay man he's dealing with stuff no straight white man can understand. You can't start playing the "well, I'm a (blank) and I've been slurred and I wouldn't have reacted that way." It's different. Common sense says as much and you need to be smarter than to start comparing your plight to Beckham dealing with either a) being in the closet or b) having to deal with the rumors on a daily basis.
OOP, I have no issue with you - except when you start being childish with name-calling and talking to me without talking to me. That "the thing Rhody doesn't understand ... " Dude, I'm here. Act like an adult and we can have a conversation.

Good lord, you are an idiot. Calling someone a name isn't a hate "crime." There's nothing illegal about it.

And yes, what Beckham did was assault. I know it's hard for you to think--well, at all--but things done on the field of play do not exclude you from potential legal action.

Ask Marty McSorley and Todd Bertuzzi.

You have this so backwards, it's amazing.

But it wasn't necessarily more dangerous, because players were hit by slower, lighter players than they are hit by today.

And the current physical condition of those '60s-'70s players --- those who are still alive --- is why people are making dirty play an issue today. "We were fucking stupid then," they are admitting.

Today's players don't mind being laughed at by the likes of Atkinson. Not if it means they will be ambulatory and coherent when they are his age.

I guess "rules are rules" isn't as ironclad in RhodyWorld as we were led to believe.

Rhody, I was responding to somebody else's post, not yours. It made perfect sense for me to refer to you in the third person in that response. So you called me childish without reason just as you are complaining about others calling names.

You also called them bigots. I think you did so unfairly, but that is a matter of opinion. But it is clearly name-calling. So you did it twice in a post while complaining about others doing the same thing.

Re-read that second paragraph. You absolutely made this about race. You were the one who brought race into the discussion here. You are the one accusing other posters of being bigots.

And regarding your point about what Beckham is going through, I call complete and utter bullshit. You have no idea what bigots have done and said to me in my life. None. I have every right to say Beckham needs to control himself. I once had someone who knew I was Jewish tell me that the only thing wrong with the Holocaust was that the Nazis didn't finish the job. What exactly could they have said to Beckham that is more despicable?

Beckham's actions were childish, selfish and dangerous. He could have badly injured himself and Norman. I don't care what Norman said, it doesn't justify what Beckham did. The league office was right to suspend him. They should punish the officials for failing to handle the situation and allowing a dangerous situation to continue. And Coughlin should be embarrassed to claim the Giants don't tolerate such behavior when they did exactly that on Sunday.

Show me one post I've made that is bigoted, or one that says I think using that word is ok.

Now, if you want hundreds of post that make you look like an asshat, I'd be glad to provide those for you.

It's adorable that you think you can scrub your idiocy, even though I quoted it and dispelled practically every assumption you made in your first hateful post.

    It's there. Can't delete it.
