Except the mistake is you don't elect to kick. You elect to defend a goal -- whichever way you want to go. Then that gives the other team the option, and it will choose to take the ball, not wanting to give it to Brady.

Bullshit. Fitzpatrick has been very solid and he has a decent offense around him. You give Brady a chance to win the game.

Maybe Coach Hoodie is telling the truth. If that is the case, I recognize that he made a decision, but it is a stupid-ass decision. The Jets received some lovely, late Christmas gifts today from the Patriots and the Steelers.

"Solid".... "decent"... but not a Super Bowl-winning quarterback.

I'd make Fitzpatrick score a TD in overtime every time if I have Brady. Just me.

I'm not a great lip reader, but I'm pretty damn sure I saw a "fuck you" from Bruce Arians in arguing that pass interference call -- which I would wager is what led to the unsportsmanlike conduct call on the Cards' sideline.

I can't believe anybody is actually arguing this point. You give your team a chance to win the game. Period. Anything else is just stupid.

As I asked following week 1 ... the Rams play absolute balls-out defense, make all the clutch third downs on offense and just own the Seahawks, now for a second time.

Where's this effort against the rest of the league?!?!?!?

Oh, and the Bears finish the year 5-3 away from the Spaceship.

Maybe next season they'll play in Champaign -Urbana again and have a chance at the postseason ...

By the way, the failure of the Pittsburgh defense should not be lost in the mistakes by Tomlin and Roethlisberger.

They gave up a career-high 274 yards passing to Ryan Mallet. They forced no turnovers and managed only one sack. They were too passive and gave up an easy touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. That included a deep ball down the seam on 2nd-and-22 and completion down to the three-yard-line to a fullback that nobody bothered to cover. I get that 20 points isn't awful, but it is against a Ravens' offense that has been completely decimated by injuries.

Also, there is all this talk of Villanueva earning a long-term shot at left tackle. He is a nice story and has had some decent games, but he also gave up some huge sacks this season. He gave up a killer on the final drive today and a couple late in the loss to the Bengals.

The bigger issue is the secondary. The Steelers entered this past offseason with a huge problem at cornerback and they failed to address it and that is as large of a reason as any that they will miss the playoffs.

It's really strange. With a win against the 49ers next week, they will finish 5-1 in the division and 3-7 outside it.

The Belichick decision is an interesting one. If you think you can get a stop, you're in position to win the game with a field goal, and the percentage is that you're going to get the ball in any case as the chances of the Jets going the distance are not good.

It reminds me of when they went for it on fourth down in their own territory against the Colts, assuming that Manning would score if they punted it to him. That decision generated a lot of heat too, but the math showed it to be a very close call.

Nonsense. With the way the rules are set up you take the ball and try to score. Every. Time. Especially if you have Brady. If both teams got the ball once regardless of result then yeah, you play D first, but since a TD wins the game you don't give them that chance to win it, regardless of who the QB is.

Maybe the underwhelming coach has something to do with it.
