If you hadn't posted it, I will. There is definitely a significant group among Steelers fans that have less patience with Tomlin because of the color of his skin.

I don't think he's going anywhere just yet, either, but I think you have to include last year with the bad seasons given the way that team collapsed.

I'd be very surprised to see LeBeau go before he wants to go.

  2. At the end of the day .. It's a business. While I like LeBeau, I think the defense - despite being No. 1 statistically the last few years - has issues; lack of turnovers and sacks and the inability to get off the field on third down.
As you said the same problems.
I think LeBeau would be classy enough to "retire" instead of being fired, but if the Steelers go 6-10, and the same trends hold, Haley, LeBeau and the special teams coach will be replaced by kickoff 2014.

Why not create a Steelers-only thread a la the Tebow thread...and let everyone go pee in the sandbox there?

Because we're going to end up posting here, anyway. We're not stopping anybody from bringing up any other subject related to the NFL. The next time you or anybody else wants to whine about too much Steelers' talk, perhaps you should take a moment to suggest another topic, which would be far more productive.

It'll probably hit 20 before kickoff. And Seattle will cover easily.

So, you think teams have figured LeBeau out and that is part of the problem on defense? I tend to think it is more a talent issue. They just don't have the pass rushers. They still haven't properly replaced Aaron Smith. Hood and Heyward are both failing in that regard. The same goes for James Harrison, who was a shadow of his former self most of last season. LaMarr Woodley hasn't been the same player for over two years now. Those three were huge parts of the pass rush the last time the team had one. If you can't pressure the quarterback, it's tough to make big plays.

LeBeau has adapted by going to more of a coverage-oriented approach and it worked fairly well last year, but that was a function of having Keenan Lewis and Ike Taylor on the corners with Cortez Allen emerging in the nickle package. That's why letting Lewis go was a bad decision, especially given Allen's difficulties staying healthy.

The lack of a viable inside linebacker next to Timmons also hurts. It sure looked like some of those huge openings over the middle came where the two scrub fill-ins should have been, especially the touchdown pass to Bernard.

People keep talking about the offensive line, but this is the worst Pittsburgh defensive line in a long time and it shows against the run and pass. Given all of that, I don't think LeBeau has much to work with.

  9. I tried that a few years ago and it was killed by the mods.

  10. I think it is more of a talent issue.
But .. it's like a basbeall manager of a shitty team ... it's easier to can the manager than the team.
I assume LeBeau has some say over which players and draftees he wants, so some of that is on him.

I know this sounds prickish, but Oakland is getting 15.5, not giving up.

I don't think it is prickish to correct his information. It's helpful.
