I really like the deal from the Colts' perspective. Everyone is assuming they take a step back year after so many close wins and a talent-deficient roster, and through two games that certainly looks like the way things are headed. But now they have a heavy-duty running back (and the OC is from the Harbaugh group at Stanford, so you know they want to pound the ball). I see it as the difference between eight wins and maybe 10 or 11.

Immediate Super Bowl contender? Not yet. But I don't like this idea of automatically assuming a step back and a non-playoff year that has come to be in vogue.

If McGahee is healthy this may work out fine. Over his career
he has averaged 1 yd per carry more than Richardson and is also
    a good pass blocker.

Also, the NFL is EXACTLY the same game as it was 45 years ago.

I look forward to Richardsons HOF ceremony and acquittal on murder charges.

What the hell does OJ have to do with Richardson?

Oh, my God, has it really been 45 years since O.J. won the Heisman?

I'm going to go lie down now. I feel really, really old.

Did you mean to use blue font? Might have agreed a few years ago but a lot
has changed. League is now a pass first league.

In 1973 The Bills attempted 213 passes and 605 runs

In 2012 Cleveland passed 566 times and ran 396 times

That is 16 game season vs 14 games in '73 but the ratio still
    applies.

Most teams are just not committed to the running game as they once were.
Vikings were one of the exceptions - ran 486 times pass 483. Not many
    Adrian Peterson's around though.

I'm too young for OJ as a football player, but this talk does remind me of the Marshall Faulk trade. Rams got ripped pretty good on that one -- current media star Dan Pompei wrote that there was no need to pay for Faulk when they had Amp Lee, I remember this well because my friend and I would email the link to each other every couple of weeks over the next three years.

I cited Simpson only because of the sentiment he was a bust after his rookie season. Turns out he was merely being misused. My point was that it seems awfully early to declare with great conviction that Richardson isn't worth a first round draft pick in a trade. He may have merely been in a bad situation (i.e, back on a team with a horseshit quarterback.
BTW, former Pats backup Brian Hoyer has my sympathy. What the hell is he going to do out there?

Are you comparing Trent Richardson to Marshall Faulk?

He could turn out to be something like it. He was the third overall pick. First-year profile of about 1,000 yards and 50-plus catches is in line. Faulk had some pretty low YPC years too on those bad Indy teams.

Definitely worth the gamble in Indy's situation.

Reminds me a lot of when the Bills traded Lynch to the Seahawks. Look how that turned out.
