Meh. Whatever. Still a good line.

I truly believe USC is the only college job that would cause Kiffin to leave Tennessee. He went to college in California and was a USC assistant for five years so it's not like he's leaving to go somewhere where he has no history.

He probably also thought he had no shot at the job, so when he found out he did, he had to take it. I'm betting Sarkisian was cursing Carroll when he found out he was leaving because that job would have been his if he had stayed at USC rather than bolt for Washington.

Almost all of the SEC fans can't believe it when a coach thinks someplace else might be better than coaching they're beloved team.

yeah. So is "Win one for the Gipper." But it's hardly original.

I think Kiffin will win at USC, and while the SC gig might be a better job - it isn't right now.
Kiffin was revered in Knoxville because he was the anti-Phil Fulmer. In L.A. he's going to have to get on his tippy-toes to come close to measuring up to Carroll. If the NCAA stuff hits he can't claim he's the white knight to clean up the program.
I see maybe an Earl Bruce/John Cooper/Ron Zook era coming on.

Just for amusement, I went back and read the Welcome to the SEC, Kiffin thread a few minutes ago. Funny how TigerVols was slurping everything Kiffin (both of them) as recently as last month.

    Now, they're the devil. Awesome.

I always liked the one about Bush: Born on third base and immediately tried to steal second.

I weep for TigerVols and hope he is staying away from sharp objects. Vol fans are great folks and they deserved better than Kiffin even before they signed him. I almost think he's climbing the ladder as fast as he can because once he can't bring daddy along - he'll be exposed.

I never claimed it was original. Just that Forde said it and that I liked it. Sorry my knowledge of one-liners doesn't match up to yours. I'm sure we'll both get over it very soon. I can only hope.

I think I know where you're going with that, but Earle doesn't belong IMO. He was an OSU guy, coached in Ohio h.s. for years, had a better record than Woody after 9 seasons, was 5-4 vs. Michigan and won 1 more Big Ten championship. (Woody did have 2 national championships, though.) Earle's problem was Wisconsin, Illinois (to some degree) no national championships and his personality. He wasn't perfect, but considering what happened in all but 5 of the ensuing 13 years under Cooper ...

If Petrino takes the job, what are the odds he actually makes it to the end of spring practice next season without accepting another job?

There might be something to that.

All along Kiffin has reminded me of George W. -- a guy that might have fun to have a beer with, but he also seems like a bit of an idiot who wouldn't be anywhere without his famous and successful daddy.

If Kiffin doesn't have at least two Rose Bowl wins or 1 national championship by year four, he'll be out the door. Bruce, Cooper and Zook (yes, even him) were all decent coaches, but they suffered in comparison to their predecessor.
