Well, if that were to happen ... let's just go ahead and get this out of the way now ...

[zagoshe]I was just on the Arkansas board for three hours, and Arkansas fans are despicable. SEC fans are the worst. They should all be ashamed of themselves. Or deported. Or both.[/zagoshe]

That's fine if you want to make an ass of yourself in the process, which is what he's done. At 34 he still needs to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up.

I let your non sequitur ad-hominem "bitter" attack slide earlier, but...

WTF would you expect me to do? Kiffin was a good hire at the time, was looking like he was going to build a winner, and left "us" in the lurch with a move that's almost universally being trashed as classless in column after column all over the country.

It never ceases to amaze me when people come to a sports journalism board and complain about fans' love for sports teams. Who the fuck do you think keeps sports journalists in business? Birdwatchers? Foodies? Car nuts?

Don't think taking the USC job makes an ass out of himself.

Although he certainly did that more than a handful times as the coach of Tennessee.

I wasn't complaining. Just pointing out that your fanboy-ism is amusing.

Before: Kiffin is GOD. Don't care what he does, he's GOD!!
Now: Eff Kiffin! He sucks anyway!!

    :)

You'd still take the job 100 times out of 100. Admit it.

Taking the USC job is faaaar down the list of things Kiffin has done in Knoxville to make an ass out of himself.

And Sonner, WTF would you expect? Hope you enjoy getting off on poking pissed off people with sticks.

The only thing I'll say about this is that

    (a) USC is a better job than Tennessee, so it is not a lateral move for him.
    (b) Even though he has been a bit of a vagabond to this point in his career, Kiffin has reached the ceiling until he proves something, which means he'll be at USC for a while.
    (c) Vols fans can whine all they want but I don't think there is any question the program is in better shape now than it was 14 months ago when Kiffin arrived. The school has a good recruiting class, had a good recruiting class last year, have a lot of experienced players coming back and are coming off a winning season with a bowl game, meaning they got the extra month of practice in.
    (d) MB apparently needs a terrible towel to cry on.
    (E) If Tennessee hires anyone who is currently a head coach of another program, they are no better than Kiffin or USC, but that's a reality of college athletics so I don't understand why there is always such an "outrage" when a coach leaves one place for another.

Relax. I'm just having a little fun. Vols fans have every right to be pissed. I'd be pissed too. Doesn't mean I think Kiffin shouldn't have taken the job, though. Just a shitty situation all around.

Fans are going to have to get used to the fact that college coaches are going to leave for the next, best opportunity. There aren't going to be anymore Bears, JoPas, Bos or Woodys. You're going to get to rent a coach for a few years, and then off they'll go.

Otherwise, they're just setting themselves up for disappoinment and bitterness every three or 4 years, if not sooner.
