Was the assistants thing a holdup with Cutcliffe? Tennessee can't really expect a new coach to agree to come in and take X number of holdovers, can it?

Well that's not true, I am sure Mike Leach or Jim Leavitt would jump at the chance to take this job.........

I'd take Mike Leach in a heartbeat.

I'd love to see Leach at Tennessee. I'd probably start rooting for them.

I'd maintain that the longer this goes, the better off Tennessee will be. Remember the trainwreck that was the last Alabama coaching search, where such notables as Rich Rodriguez and Jim Leavitt turned the job down? That seemed to work out OK.

Tennessee needs to take a step back, realize why it's not getting the people it wants and then regroup and if it's paying well enough, there's no reason why they can't get a top coach, one much better than Cutcliffe.

It's not just Kiffin's former UT players who think he's a classless turd...

I don't have a ton of sympathy for coaches who are still under contract and will be paid no matter what.

Kiffin never expected to be one and done. Carroll had turned down so many great NFL offers that I think people had gotten to the point where they thought he'd finish his career in USC. I know I felt that way after he turned down the Niners and the Chargers.

This happens about 10 times a year. Why is this so much worse than when every other coach does it?

"partners in slime". Didn't see those comments when both were employed in Knoxville.

Further proof that Kiffin leaves a trail of slime.

What has Kiffin ever done to make anyone think he would win nine or 10 games in a season? I'd like to see him do it once. So far, his best record as a head coach in any one season was this year, 7-6, barely over .500.

Because coaches don't usually quit a program after one year.

Even if Kiffin decided he wanted his dream job, his exit was classless, which was a reflection of his one-year tenure there (firing long-time secretaries really added to the win column there).

Instead of being humble while leaving, he chose to torch the place. If he really cared about his 'student-athletes', he would have told the recruits to stay at Tennessee and wish them luck. Instead, he tried to poach them while on Tennessee's payroll.

I don't see the big deal. If Kiffin had gone 2-10 last season, Tennessee would have had no problem canning his ass after just one year. Nobody knows that better than Kiffin after what happened to him in Oakland.

I'll bet Sarkisian is kicking himself for not being able to do what Kiffin decided to do.

Tennessee would have given him a second year even if he went 2-10, as long as he was showing signs of building and to avoid looking like a rudderless program. If he would have repeated it, then they might have booted him out.
