I don't think he did his job by neglecting information for his readers.

That's what it comes down to.

Let's say Tiger Woods comes to you with a chance at exclusive access, where he says he will talk about his infidelity and the current state of his marriage. But he wants to spend 10 minutes off camera providing background before going on camera.

Do you tell him to hit the road?

Except, this wasn't about ediotrial restrictions, there was not attempt to prevent you from being a REAL REPORTER, TV guys were just mad because they might actually have to work a little bit to put together a story.

And guess what -- all of the bravado about dictating coverage is nice, but it is hot air because SIDs and Media Relations people, they do dictate to you what you are able to get on the air.

Did you ever try to video tape the team portions of a football practice? Or, let me guess, you tell the SID "no, no if I can't film the team part, I'm not going to film the first 30 mintues when they are just doing special teams shit and drills and in fact, you might as well kick us out of here..."

Get over yourself, it is a give and take and once again, there is no real journalist who would agree to have LESS information because in getting that information it might force you to do a little bit more work than you'd like.

Big Ragu needs to go back to what he does best - butchering the laws of economics and quit insulting people who do their job and do their job well.

What Eddie Munster and some of you on here fail to understand is Kiffin held all of the cards, UT was just the messenger. Making a stand was pointless. What unfair advantage did the print guys have? None, unless they were allowed to film it and TV wasn't. As Wes points out, TV had several options open to them. And when you report the story you point out that Kiffin would only speak under pre-arranged conditions.

If Eddie Munster didn't like it, he should have just left.

Thank you - there was nothing "unacceptable" about this situation except for the TV station acting like a bunch of big fucking babies because they couldn't have it their way.

Not to mention, for the 100th time, that the restrictions weren't made by the SID or UT. They were made by Kiffin, who was under no obligation to speak to the media at all.

If they acknowledge that point then they have no argument.

    Bingo.

Of course, the TV guys would have been happier had he not said anything because they didn't get to ask some deep emotional question like "how does it feel" and do a close up shot of of him.....

Being a reporter means getting as much information as possible and telling a story with said information. That is what print guys do every single day -- TV guys apparently, based on what I am reading here don't get this concept.

While we're at it, here's full disclosure.

I am Hammer Pants. I wrote what buckweaver copied and pasted (with my permission) on the previous page in this thread.

If I'm going to come on here with my real name and defend my actions, I felt it necessary to come clean and be 100 percent honest. Honestly, it wouldn't take a tremendous amount of research between this site and the other site to decipher the code, anyway — and we obviously share this Web space with people who wouldn't think twice to do that.

So, that's the deal. I might keep being HP on here. Hell, I earned that post count, and I don't think I'm ashamed of anything I've written — I sure as hell hope not. Then again, I've been on the site for years, and I'm approximately 1,000 times more mature at 27 then I was during my days as a 21- and 22-year old on here. I probably linked a few of my own stories back then, as young arrogant people are prone to do. It's funny now, at least to me.

It's entirely possible that I'll deeply regret outing myself. This has been a hell of a week and a hell of a year on this beat, and my wits are definitely dulled from a series of 14-hours days of Kiffin and Pearl and a coaching search, so this might be a big mistake. But whatever. It was basically out there, anyway, and I feel better disclosing this before someone else does it for me.

In other words, your answer is no. Have fun in grad school bloviating about what people do in the real world.

    Hey, no outing!
    Oh, wait.
You'll be OK. Thanks for being upfront. And I'm shocked, I tell you, SHOCKED to learn that post was you.

Many, many, many media opportunities feature parts of an interview on camera and parts of an interview off camera.

Kiffin was going to given canned statements. OK, get a bit on camera and then get your tail on the phone and on campus and go report. If your whole story is Kiffin's comments on camera, you're being lazy and taken what's given to you.

What exactly do you people cover?
