He actually explained the story of wrecking his car in August to the Rivals.com site on the beat.

Said he'd spent several nights in a row at the office, and his offensive coordinator offered to handle the first morning meeting and let him go home and stay with his family. Said he fell asleep at the wheel a half mile from his house and wrecked.

I'm not saying I believe him, and I'm not saying I don't, but he's on record saying that since August, and he offered the story without being asked. So, in fairness, I'm just throwing that out there. I'd even forgotten about that (version of the) story until someone else on the beat reminded me.

There are other pictures like this, probably from the same day and time, that show Kiffin, his brother-in-law and Tomlin "partying" ... with Kiffin's wife and sister both there. A Larry Eustachy situation, this is not.

I posted this on the Journalism Board version of this thread.

Poynter interviewed the news director from the Youtube video and posted it today. The commentary from Al Tompkins supports his actions.

The guy who wrote the article is saying bravo for a journalists willing to stand up -- and get LESS information than was available to try and tell his story.

    Pure idiocy.

And Bill Shory is now the poster child for the moronic TV douche who wouldn't know what real journalism entails - i.e. reporting on a story when it is not handed to you in a 30-second sound byte - if it hit him in the mouth.

Taking notes at a presser isn't an example of great journalism either.

Taking notes at a presser as part of doing background work for a story is, however.

"There was certainly a competitive issue. We wanted to make sure the playing field was level for television."

    Huh? This is bullshit.

As far as his second point, Kiffin was no longer an employee - university property or not.

Perhaps Poynter would have had more well-rounded coverage if it hadn't just interviewed one person and watched one 8-minute YouTube clip.

    I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy.

We all know you're pissed because Shory supposedly ruined everyone's chance for Kiffin to ope up. Your opinion on the issue is no more valid than mine or anyone else's.
