Tennessee has been one of the most stable environments for a football coach in the country over the last 25 years. No school is known for running its coaches off more than Auburn. I agree they went out on a limb and would look stupid if they got rid of Chizik after one year, but if he got on Lowder's bad side, it could happen.

    What a freakin' odd dude.
And pissing off college coaches probably isn't a good idea for Kiffin to start doing right away. You piss off one coach, you're going to piss off a bunch.

They might love it in Knoxville that Meyer and Saban already hate him.

They might not when Meyer and Saban re-enact Georgia Tech-Cumberland for their personal benefit.

People laughed at Pearl when he stood on a chair and said he would kick national champion Florida's ass, too, and he's something like 6-1 against Donovan (but doesn't have the bling, obviously).

I wouldn't have started my new job the way Kiffin has (unless Eric Berry could play all 22 positions ... then I'd pull my pants down in a presser and tell Meyer to kiss my ass), but that coaching staff obviously makes him feel pretty secure. Kiffin turned a lot of big recruits on Tuesday and stole another one from LSU on Wednesday, and most of the country's top guys who haven't signed are interested in Tennessee. But most of Tennessee's rivals have been signing those types of kids for multiple years. Either way, he's made it interesting.

And those games are in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville, for the record.

I know that hate is one of the four basic food groups in the SEC, but I also think coaches with stronger SEC ties won't be shy about running it up on the Vols and making Kiffin look bad.
Kiffin is writing checks his team shouldn't be expected to cash.
I'm sure enthusiasm is appreciated, but at some point a player might think, uh coach, we have to PLAY these guys. Kiffin's like the girlfriend who takes offense at some guy (who happens to be much bigger than you) and expects you to get your ass kicked for her honor.
Job 1 for a coach is to put his players in a position to succeed. I don't see any evidence his comments do this.

The only way Kiffin won't succeed is if he can't recruit.

I'd bet just about any amount of money that Tennessee will be better in 2009 than it was in 2008, not that that's saying much.

They'll get killed by Florida and Alabama, but in a couple years things will even out a bit. The guy is a good coach and a great recruiter. Having his daddy running the defense isn't going to hurt either.

You just did that to piss him off!

And Bianchi takes a few decent swipes at Kiffin (not surprisingly):

"Then again, what do you expect from a guy who undeservedly gets a big-time job and immediately hires his daddy to show him how to coach?"

"His bravado reminded me of a young Steve Spurrier coming into the league nearly two decades ago. Except for one thing: Spurrier actually proved himself as a head coach before he became so cocksure; Kiffin has proved nothing yet except that he was born Monte Kiffin's son."
