1964 and 1973 are a little shaky, but they're still legit. UPI (the coaches poll back in the day) awarded its NC before the bowls. That's not Alabama's fault. What, are they not supposed to claim them?

And though they don't apply to Bryant, how can teams (1925, 1930 and 1934) that went undefeated and won the Rose Bowl (then the only bowl that mattered) and another that went 9-0-1 and tied the No. 1 team in the Rose Bowl (1926) not have legit claims to the national championship?

But I guess if you're going to pick apart Alabama's national championship claims, the rest of what I wrote must have been solid ...

I honestly had no idea anyone disputed Minnesota's national title from 1934.
