The Twitter's not taking well to Matt.

The subject of this thread is that Hollywood is pushing back against "American Sniper." Matt Taibbi is not part of "Hollywood."

But it does recall my earlier question to YankeeFan: What constitutes an acceptable review of this film? Four stars or you're with the enemy? Three and a half?

It's Rolling Stone. I question whether he saw the movie, or whether the movie even exists.

And for the record, Taibbi isn't criticizing or engaging in a "character assassination" of Chris Kyle. He, like our own Alma, doesn't believe that as a storyteller you can completely divorce the soldier's mission from the big-picture mission and still have presented an honest piece of moral theater for people to chew on. That's such a fair debate that I get frustrated that people - largely country singers and their mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging fans - go Defcon 1,000 over it.

Edit: Well, Taibbi did call him "kind of a dick."

    Angry Matt Taibbi is angry.

He lost me at this point:

The characters in Eastwood's movies almost always wear white and black hats or their equivalents, so you know at all times who's the good guy on the one hand, and whose exploding head we're to applaud on the other.

What? We're seriously going to say that the guy who made "Unforgiven" is incapable of working with shades of gray?

Plus, you know, if there's anything Matt Taibii is good at, it's presenting a balanced, nuanced, humanized portrait of the villains in his financial reporting stories.

If every middle east war movie regardless of story line carries an obligatory "Bush / Cheney were war criminals" message, I believe
    the critics would be satisfied.

As as sidebar I was aghast that they showed Kyle with a can of Copenhagen. What an impression of the youth of 'merica

No - Snipers are dippers. Too many issues with chewing tobacco.
