On those occassions when I get back east to visit, I see Yuengling lager and black & tan on tap quite often.
I never see the porter, which I think is their best.
Used to drink gallons of it in college. Just really good.

Toured the Kona Brewing Co. facility in, uh, Kona. Discovered they don't make glass in, uh, Kona so any delicious Longboard Lager or Big Wave Golden Ale that you find in bottles was not made in, uh, Kona. They only fill kegs in, uh, Kona. Too expensive to import bottles from the mainland, fill 'em up and ship them back to the mainland. Seems they joined up with Widmer and Redhook to form the Craft Brew Alliance with breweries in Oregon, Washington and New Hampshire. Even if you get a bottle of Longboard in Hawaii, it was made in Portland or Woodinville. They are relocating to a new facility in Kona by next year and are probably going to start putting their beer in aluminum cans.

But Maui Brewing DOES brew on the island and ship to the mainland....in cans. I just picked up the Coconut Hiwa and the limited release Wit this week.

spike, you should do a story on beers that are brewed in deceptive places.

That has pissed me off ever since I noticed that Foster's started brewing in Canada, thus keeping the word "IMPORTED" on the side.

Then I realized that it is now brewed within the States, and they have dropped the "IMPORTED" from their cans.

In between those two observations, I also realized that Foster's sucks and is derided by most Australians.

This is partly why my avatar is what it is. Victoria Bitter. Never had it. On my bucket list. Along with a lot of Australian beers.

For a while, Miller licensed the name Lowenbrau, which was a German brand, brewed it in the US with a different recipe, and tried to make people think it was an actual German beer.

Coors used to advertise about water from the Rockies and shit, but it was being brewed all over the place. Don't know how deceptive that is. Goose Island is mostly brewed in A-B breweries. Again, the level of deception depends on the person.

Goose Island 312 is often brewed at Bud plants in New York and Colorado.

At least Green Line is generally only made at the Fulton (Chicago) brewery.

The Lowenbrau I knew as a kid in the 1980s was a Miller product. I can't recall if I knew it was Miller, but I certainly knew it was American.
Still, at the time, I thought it was awesome. Ice-cold Lowenbrau ponies on a hot day seemed like heaven.
Of course this was a time when my normal beer I could afford was a 12-pack of Old Milwaukee for $3.
Things like Lowenbrau and even Michelob seemed like such a step up.
