I'm sorry, but why are we wasting so much bandwidth debating a team that's currently ranked below I-AA UMass in the Sagarin ratings? :D

Hoops, unlike the others, I think the trips to Ga. Tech and Clemson count -- probably more hostile environments than most people here are giving them credit for, since they are big-ass rivalry games and those home fans are so loathsome of the opponent. So what if it's a short drive? Game's just as draining due to the other factors.

Everyone schedules soft on the non-conference side. The fact that Big Ten schools play so many MAC teams (a tad tougher conference than the Sunbelt and others that regularly pop up on the SEC radar) that actually have been competitive -- Marshall nearly beating Michigan at Ann Arbor, Toledo emasculating Penn State a few years back -- gives them a couple brownie points. Would like to see a Florida or South Carolina go a little beyond the Carolinas and play a team such as West Virginia, Pitt, Boston College or Maryland in October or November.

By the way, that Boise-Georgia game was a complete joke.

There is no such thing as a short drive to Clemson, gameday or not.

LSU in the last five years has scheduled:

    2006: vs. Arizona
2005: at Arizona State (was scheduled for home as part of a home-and-home)
    2004: vs. Oregon State
    2003: at Arizona
    2002: at Virginia Tech

That's a fine enough schedule for me. When you play Auburn, Arkansas and Alabama every year and add in games against the East Division, you don't need to schedule any heavier than that.

They just showed a crowd shot from Indiana-Michigan. You could fire a cannon into most sections and not hurt anybody. If they don't give a shit about playing there, why should SEC teams?

because there's jetlag! which is what determines a 'real' non-conference game

Wonder if there will be jetlag involved in flying from Atlanta to wherever the nearest airport is to Stillwater?

That would be Tulsa. But since that's where you fly into for Arkansas games also, that won't count.

Uh, that shot was taken during warmups, when the announcers typically tape the pre-game introduction stuff, about 90 minutes before game time. Attendance today was 42,300.

And if Georgia actually does play at Stillwater, instead of buying the game out, it will be the Bulldogs' first non-conference regular-season game outside of the Eastern Time Zone since 9/23/1972, when it played at Tulane.

Before that, it's 1965, at Michigan. So until play in Stillwater, that will be two regular-season non-league games outside of the Eastern Time Zone, and one game outside of the south, in 43 years. That's some courageous scheduling, right there.
