What do your children call adults?

There is the slightest hint of slave mentatlity there with the "owners" of their labor.

When my friends and I imitate Francesca, it's always joking about him talking about how classy Mr. Mara was (and perhaps gets a little un-PC from there).

Since I was very young, I called my mother and her sister by their first names. Once I had kids, they became "Grandma" and "Aunt" for my kids.

Interesting point someone made about "Miss" vs. "Ma'am" for ladies. We were out to dinner this week with my in-laws and I noticed the waiter addressing my MIL as "miss." She was flattered.

Speaking of in-laws ... it's still a bit odd to me to call them by their first names (although I do it), and I've been married 23 years. Mom and Dad seems less weird. Or if the kids are around, Grandma and Grandpa always works.

With my first wife, for the longest time I didn't know what to call her father, a very stern, religious man. Ma worked fine for her mother and I would avoid using any name for him until I settled on Pop.

I call my current in-laws by their first names.

Our next door neighbor's family was pretty dysfunctional, and so the one son was constantly at our house, and is practically a seventh brother. I know he considered my father to be like a second father, and still considers my mom to be a second mother.

One day, I'm not sure if he had reached a certain age, or what, but he just began calling my dad by his first name.

It didn't offend my dad, but he did think it was pretty funny how it changed all of a sudden.

I used to get my little brothers in trouble by convincing them to call our parents by their first names.
