If the role of a university is to be an institution of higher learning which purpose should be education and research, instead of a defacto basketball and football minor league, I'm all for rooting for the SunTrust Gators or Sun Maid Raisin Bulldogs.

The business of sports should be a degree program, not a cost of doing business as a public university.
