What is 'trolling'?

To be fair I think a lot of what Dick does is playing Devil's Advocate to foster discussion.

I agree. But I think he's hoping it goes a certain way sometimes so he can pounce.

 

I don't like the expansive definition of "troll." I think it's dismissive and reduces people to a single-trait cartoon character while letting yourself off the hook from having to defend anything.

Someone compared it to "hater." That's a good comparison.

When a poster drags something up that has been debated to death for the sole purpose of starting shit, he or she deserves to be dismissed.

Also, using that word doesn't mean you don't have to defend anything.

I think you don't like that expansive definition because it fits some of what you do on this board. To be clear, it isn't all you do, but you do it often enough that you have earned having the word tossed in your direction on occasion.

 

My thought about this thread: Everybody is just bored without the Politics one.

I don't know if the Internet turns people into assholes or just reveals assholes where they already existed, but obviously I've rubbed a lot of you the wrong way, for a long time.
