I pay $8.99 per month for the digital version of The New Yorker, that way I can read everything at my own pace and there’s not a stack of unread print copies piled next to my bed creating a fire hazard.

Outside and Men’s Journal are good on occasion from the newsstand. Esquire and GQ make me sick.

I tried over the years to read Esquire, Vanity Fair, The New Yorker... words words words words words words words words, too many fuckin' words. I want to read that many words, I will pick up a book.

If there is one magazine I miss, it is SPY.

But it was a product of the 1980s / early 90s. And even though I think something like it would really appeal to me in today's climate (done well, there is so much material), the changes in how we consume media, and how short our attention spans have become, make something like it an impossibility.

    Agreed.

    Also, National Lampoon.

That was, in its earlier days, Gawker.

Entire SPY magazine archives are available online (for free) at Google Books by the way.

And, to clarify, I’m not necessarily comparing the quality of Gawker to SPY. I’m just saying it was of a similar genre, before it moved toward being a much more broadly focused publication in the quest for page views.
