What Makes This Piece Good, Vol. 4: Selena Roberts' gamer on Knicks/Heat

It's different with each of those jobs, YF. What the layman doesn't know is what goes into preparing to write a gamer. There are so many things going on other than the clock on the wall.

If I had a penny for every time I had to tear down most of a night's work because somebody blooped a ninth-inning single ... well, you know the rest.

And in Roberts' case here, she could not have written any of that story until the game was over. You can tell that just from the construction of the piece.

 

That's completely accurate. A close friend worked with her at SI and "difficult reputation" is being kind. To be fair, there is a long, long list of journalists we can say the same thing about.

But recent reputation aside, that's still a hell of a gamer.
