    I share Larry Gopnik’s confusion as to what it all means and his frustration with anyone trying to explain it.

    There oughta be one.

    I'll also go with Rounders, only because of one scene, where Matt Damon is talking to the professor in the bar, and the professor is telling him the story of how he disappointed his parents by choosing a career in law.

    Damon asks if he would make the same choices again, and the professor says, "What choice? ... we can't run from who we are. Our destiny chooses us."

    That hits me right in the heart, no matter how many times I watch it.

    When I was in college I remember a prof talking about a "friend" who described himself as a "tourist in life." That struck a chord. I saw Clooney in the same way.

    I've seen Jaws a hundred-plus times easy and if I had a week to live I'd watch it again. The pandemic showed me how powerful that plot device was.

    I don't know mon ami, I thought 2022 was going to be a banner year for the republic. I do not stand by that prediction.
