Oh yeah, I should have warned you:

Fast forward every time they try to talk about anything other than baseball, or make you listen to their music.

The Baseball Show with Rany (Jazeryerli) and Joe (Sheehan) made its return after a 5-month hiatus earlier this week (apparently due to Sheehan's health problems). The schedule can be sporadic, but it's always an hour and 20 minutes or so of good quality analysis.

In general, this is what keeps my podcast list really, really short. The people who do podcasts invariably think their personal lives are fascinating.

I read a blog post that listed the top podcasts for music. One sounded interesting, so I downloaded the most recent episode. I checked the timer -- it took them a bit longer than 20 minutes before they actually made a mention of the topic. The first 20:00+ was just idle chatter and bullshit from four boring-as-hell, smug hipsters.

The few podcasts I still listen to are all done by professional journalists. They seem to be the only people who can sit behind a microphone and fight the urge to prattle on endlessly about themselves.

I'm starting to think Dan Carlin's Hardcore History is waning. His latest on the Mongols is mostly rehashed stuff from the Steppe Stories episode.

I check in on WTF weekly to see who Maron has as a guest. Loved him re-distributing his interviews with Ron Shock and Mike DeStefano when they died. I also enjoyed him pissing off that insufferable ass Gallagher to the point that he got up and walked out of the room. Beyond that, I get tired of hearing Maron whine about how he's been his own worst enemy for 30 freaking years and how jealous he's been over every comic who went onto better things.

Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast is becoming appointment downloading for me. Two weeks ago he totally shit on 80's hair metal for 20 minutes and had me almost in tears.

Good thing that was only Part 1, then. I doubt he'd leave a subject as fascinating as the Mongols -- his pick for the greatest army of all time -- with just a rehash. Plus, if you listen to Common Sense, he says why his eye might have been briefly off the ball.

Never liked Common Sense. What did he say on that show?

He sounded burned out; said he was tired of complaining about the state of American politics and wants to start doing something but doesn't know how. It's only about 30 minutes, and he talks about the possible impact on the history show: http://www.dancarlin.com/disp.php/csarchive/Show-229---Put-Up-or-Shut-Up/%20reform-Ratigan-Greenwald

I'm kind of the same way with Maron. I almost always fast-forward through his intro and whether I listen depends on who the guest is.

I think I'm at the point with Carolla or Mohr that I'll listen no matter who the guest is.

this is my problem, too. there must be 10,000+ podcasts to choose from but most of the hosts are so damn insufferable.

the only ones i enjoy are kornheiser and adam carolla. i actually enjoy when they talk about their personal lives because kornheiser reminds me of my dad (though my dad isn't a big of an asshat and isn't a vindictive grudge-holder) and carolla just fascinates me. both of them, though they can be smug, know they are lucky to be as fantastically wealthy as they are.

i've listened to 'judge' john hodgman and enjoyed it from time to time. i like savage love occasionally but some of the shit talked about on there is a little bit too extreme.

the others i like are, as someone posted above, from actual journalists, because i can't tolerate the random guys and gals talking about their own lives as if i give a shit.
