No doubt. Haven't read the whole thread, but this definitely should be a correction since it is factually incorrect. There is no reason to mention her kid. Just refer to the error and say Joe Blow is the only local kid to win three "consecutive" titles and leave it at that.
As for the worst parents, I keep thinking of is JD's dad from ''Friday Night Lights.'' That type of sense of entitlement makes me sick. And there is some merit to the comments about wealthier parents being this way.

At my old shop, we had one lady from one school who called to complain that we gave preference to two other schools (who happened to co-host a season-opening soccer tournament every year that we always covered). This was about a week and a half into the spring season, so I went and looked at the complaining school's schedule. They had one home game in all sports, and the rest were at least half an hour away. And I'd covered the home game.

    Get this, guys.
Last night was the season baseball opener for the D-I program I cover.
I had not set foot in the locker room for interviews that the team's coach ragged my ass in front of everybody that "we are honored you broke away from basketball long enough to cover us" and added other such niceties as "you mean the basketball coaches aren't pissed at you that you aren't covering their game tonight?"
okay, the coach and I get along well enough and all..but he pulls this shit in front of everybody else and they think it's cute as hell..it's that ol' "The Mean Media versus Jocksville."
I just grinned and told him," I got a tight deadline. Let's talk about the game."

And this is the FIRST fucking game of the season.
One down, about 60 to go with this shit cuz the next line to be used by that coach will be something about "can't believe you are breaking away from spring football to come cover us for a change."

Dirty Deeds....sense of entitlement is right.
I still get mad when I think about the father of a very good prep running back we covered. the son was super nice and exhibited no trace of the cockiness, arrogance and sense of privilege that his dad did.
the son goes on to play at a high-profile D-I program. we covered his team and did several features on him. overall, very good coverage, i thought.
keep in mind, too, that i've known this family a long time. the arrogant dad and I have known each other 20-plus years.
anyway, i get called into my boss's office one day. he tells me that said dad had called him and complained about the lack of coverage of the team his son was playing at and also the son's contributions.
the boss backed me totally and thought the guy was totally out of line. which he was.
but what still gets me mad about this is that, as long as we had known each other, why he didn't have the balls just to call me up, vent all he wanted and to iron out whatever problems he had with the coverage. that's all. but he goes behind the back and goes straight to the boss man.
this particular guy is very well healthy, inherited a lot of money, etc., etc., and apparently thinks he can throw his weight around.

I've been seriously tempted to publish a statistical formula for coverage and leave it at that.

Core school > Christian school in town > Periphery schools
    Baseball Basketball/Football > Hockey/Volleyball > Everything else
    Postseason > Regular season
    Boys > Girls
Postseason > Regular season game with playoff implications > Other regular season game

Maybe some point-system based on this hierarchy.

An honorable mention shoutout to the parents who have their little darlings riding the bench in a non-revenue sport at some D-III college two states away.

How many of us have dealt with parents who were always bitching, fussing or pleading for publicity while their kids were in high school and then, once they did leave, you never see 'em around the program? While their kids are there, these types brag about how supportive they are and how much they love the school and get all worked up in the Booster Club stuff, but it's simply because Little Joey or Fatty Kathy played there for four years. Oh, I've seen that so many times. Once the kids are gone, they are nowhere to be found. The ultimate in selfishness and all about "my kid."

If you ever do, think long and hard about putting that element of your formula out there for public consumption. ;)

If we're being honest, we're being honest. That's the whole point :)

I can't think of a single sport in this area where both genders compete and the girls draw equal crowds or interest.
