Since it's 85 right now, it's going to be cold beer, steaks and a watching great sunset on the Pacific while consuming. What a grand one tonight -- because it's fast-foodsville roadtime tomorrow.

I think after we get back from our Thanksgiving trip, I'll make a seven layer salad for lunches. Someone mentioned it on the salad thread and it made me want one.

A flauta is a type of fried taco-like item. Take a corn tortilla, put something in it, usually beef or chicken, although refried beans work well, then roll it into a cylinder instead of folding it. You leave the ends open though...it's similar to a mini-burrito with a corn tortilla although since corn tortillas are less pliable you can't close one end.

Then deep-fry it. You keep them horizontal so the filling doesnt leak. Drain and serve. Not a big favorite of mine since there are other Mexican treats that taste just as good but with less calories. Still, I can't deny the fact that they are tasty. They're often served with a side of guacamole for dipping...typicall entree portion is about five or six flautas with some guac and/or picante with the usual beans/rice/lettuce/tomato.

    Flauta is Spanish for flute.
