What's the best movie you saw this decade?

Discussion in 'Anything goes' started by Mizzougrad96, Dec 29, 2009.

  1. I also love "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and the 2007 1-2 punch of "No Country for Old Men" and "There Will Be Blood."

I'm going to agree with what HC said about George.

If you see Clooney in his newest film "Up in the Air", you can see that the guy has serious chops.

He played the role absolutely perfectly without one false note. With a lesser actor it have been easier to overplay the part and create a mostly unlikeable character.

    t's an Oscar worthy performance.

I haven't seen some of the movies mentioned, but I really enjoyed "The Pursuit of Happyness" with Will Smith. Powerful movie. Clint Eastwood gets love on my list with "Million Dollar Baby" and "Gran Torino." And then I might just throw in "American Gangster," also.

If I only had to pick one movie, it would be between Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Almost Famous.
    Here's why.
Every time you watch Eternal Sunshine, you see something different. It was a brilliant idea, brilliant writing, brilliant direction and brilliant acting.
Even the throw away rolls — Hello, David Cross — are good. Just a movie that is worth watching over and over again. But, more importantly, the main idea of the film — if you could take away your hurt, would you do it and if you tried, would you regret it is simply powerful.
    The movie is perfect.
Almost Famous, the reporter in me loves this movie. Knowing that the story is mostly true just blows me away. The music lover in me, loves this movie.
More interestingly, when I hear a certain song, I equate it with the scene in Almost Famous. Cortez the Killer, hear it now and think of the airport scene set in Tupelo, Miss.
I have no other movie that I do that with.

Both movies were box office duds. Box Office Mojo says each made about $35 million in the U.S.

  6. Cool, I'm glad I was on the same wavelength with someone. I know those aren't two "it" movies of the 2000's or anything. Was afraid I was reaching.

That may be the most true statement ever.

Reaching? Have you read this thread? Eternal Sunshine ... and Almost Famous are the two most mentioned movies here.

I rarely watch Affleck for "acting." I just think he has a great presence on the screen.

They're two of the most beloved cult pictures of the decade. Like the former very much . . . adore the latter, beyond all reason.

  12. I actually had not. I just chimed in.
