What's the best movie you saw this decade?

Seeing Connelly's name reminded me of Requiem for a Dream, directed by Aronofsky. That would be on my decade list, probably not Top 10, but on there.

House of Sand and Fog was one of those films that just kind of stuck with you.

    Mr X,

I didn't like it at all. It felt like a bunch of deleted scenes to me. And I'm a fan of a lot of the folks in it.

    Different strokes.

While it's not the best movie of the decade a really good and extremely underrated movie that I'm not sure has been mentioned is In Bruges. A dark comedy that delivered both the laughs and the drama that are necessary to properly pull off the genre.

It was one helluva decade for sports movies. The boxing genre alone was great (Rocky Balboa, Million Dollar Baby, Cinderella Man). Good spirit-lifters with Remember the Titans, Miracle, The Rookie and The Blind Side. 61*. The remake of Bad News Bears was good, and For the Love of the Game missed being part of the decade by one year (1999 release). Loved the scene in the bar where the obnoxious Yankees fan starts reciting a player for each number. Actually had a Yankees fan do that with me once. I wasn't as good at getting him to shut up as Kelly Preston was.

Glory Road, Express, Leather, Friday Night Lights, Strokes of Genius ... can anyone remember a better 10 years for sports movies?

The 1970s was better by a mile...

    Slap Shot
    Rocky
    Longest Yard
    Bang the Drum Slowly
    Bad News Bears
    The Champ
    The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh

...with Caddyshack and Raging Bull both just missing with a 1980 release and Victory in 1981.

Looks like a quality v. quantity argument

    Strokes of Genius?

Express was shit, assuming you are referencing The Express with Quaid.

Now there's a reference I never would have expected to see on this thread.

  12. I haven't read through the whole thread, but two more that I thought were tremendous that I haven't seen mentioned:

    Michael Clayton
    Milk

Although I'm not sure in Milk why Van Sant chose to give away the ending so early. I guess he thought it created tension when the climax begins to occur, because of the viewer's anticipation. Either that or he thought everybody already knew Milk's story, which wasn't necessarily true.
