Anyone ever done the nine in nine? Nine beers and nine dogs over the course of a nine-inning ball game?

For those interested ... dude's trying the 72 oz steak and sides now .... about 45 minutes left and he already looks as if he's moving slow. Not looking good for his checking account, I'm afraid.

Back in my rabbit metabolism days (RIP), I could eat 8,000-9,000 calories a day and not gain an ounce. This explains how I was 132 pounds when I graduated from high school and 142 when I graduated from college.

Two examples of this stand out. The first was when I was a counselor-in-training at this summer camp I went to as a camper, then counselor. One night, we CITs decided to have a taco-eating contest.

I ate 16 in 35 minutes... and finished third. The guy who won ate 21, the runner-up 19.

The second came at my first full-time paper. Our city editor put together a team for a charity rib-eating contest at Tony Roma's. Five-person teams charged with eating as many ribs as you can in five minutes.

I ate 26 ribs in those five minutes... and wanted to puke something terrible. It was five years before I could eat a rib again and I haven't stepped foot into a Tony Roma's since. And that was 1991.

Our team finished a distant ninth. The winning team threw down something like 175 ribs.
