What's the most you've ever eaten in one sitting?

The other side is shrimp cocktail. Looks like ex-Reds pitcher Frank Pastore is a hall of famer at this joint.

They do have a time limit -- one hour.

I ate at the Big Texan back in '92, when I was working in New Mexico. My wife and good friend were pushing me to take on the 72-ounce T-bone. Had it just been the steak and salad, perhaps I'd of tried.

But throw in the potato, bread and everything else and I knew there was no way. Instead, I had a 25-ounce steak, half my wife's 12-ounce steak and a good portion of the two plates of fried rattlesnake. A nice meal all around.

Here's the thing about the Big Texan. They have a "Wall of Fame" with all the people who have managed to tackle the 72-ounce steak, their home town and the amount of time it took them.

On the list is former major leaguer Frank Pastore, who finished in 11 minutes or so, if I remember right.

One guy finished in nine minutes. Nine, freakin' minutes.

There's a place where they challenge two people to finish a 15-pound pizza in an hour. I watched two huge guys try and fail. Then a few weeks later one of my college buddies walked in and polished the thing off on his own. We were all there rooting him on, but I don't think I've ever seen anything more disgusting... That is until ESPN started televising the hot dog eating contest and Fox had that show where people would eat a full jar of Mayo.

    16 tacos.

Of course, in my early 20s, I routinely went to Burger King, ordered six cheeseburgers, ketchup only, and an order of fries (not a big fry fan), along with an extra large Pepsi (when they still served Pepsi).

I would refill my cup twice before I left.

That was two days a week, I imagine.

Do you have to eat the fat and gristle, too, like John Candy had to when he pounded down the Old 96er in 'The Great Outdoors'?

I'm crazy enough to think I could do that 72-oz steak, if I starved myself for a day or two in advance and if it was a really good steak. But the full meal might do me in ... don't underestimate all that side crap.

I'd rather be John Candy in "The Great Outdoors" than Chevy Chase in "Funny Farm"

    Lamb fries.

The secret is you've got to snip 'em off real high...

I know, I'm ashamed of myself.

The secret is to not starve yourself -- your stomach shrinks when you don't eat. The secret is to eat like you normally would for a few days, then increase your intake over the few days before the event.

Some dude just sat down on the stage and appears to be talking to himself.

Probably trying to get psyched up.
