then maybe you should consider getting out of the business if you have no qualms with being unethical. it's a slippery slope, and to be honest, i hope you fall.

May a thousand people who answered your "no calls please" ad pester you endlessly.

Don't. Just don't. Inappropriate, offensive, tasteless, classless and downright unprofessional, regardless of the context. Just the mention of the word makes me cringe.

My favorite line about the dreaded "N" word was said by comedian Nick DiPalio.

The only people I believe that haven't used that word are guys that have never lost money on an NBA game.

I think when these words come up, you should whip up a small Hangman graphic with some of the letters filled in.

Then the readers could have some fun as they decipher the latest offensive slur.

Wouldn't that be a design issue?

    (Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D)

I spent about three hours in the front pew of a small baptist church today. I was the only white fella in the place. It was absolutely awesome.

As I keep telling my wife, the photos I took of the Holy Ghost didn't turn out as well as I had expected.

I know this is silly, but as I was sitting and swaying to the incredible music, it dawned upon me that the place would fall silent if I offered a "Mother Fucker" refrain to one of the pastor's spirited calls.

Of course, I didn't do it. And I wouldn't suggest you using the N word in a story, either. Like shouting "Mother Fucker" in church, there's just no good way to drop that word into a story. It would likely cause some folks to vomit.

But let's get one thing straight, the N word is Notre Dame, right?

How many topics are tougher to pin down - if that's the right phrase - than the N word? And how much trouble can you get in by noting that so many non-black people are so much more offended by the word than, you know? It makes my toes curl, and I want to see somebody who understands the word from experiencing life in that era simply pop somebody who just throws it around like it's nothing. I'm a MAWM, and while there are MAWMs with extremely mild issues on the topic, I'm not alone in the word making my skin crawl.

And yes, MAWM should be easy.

    A couple of thoughts...

Last week I read an LA Times news article about a latino gang that was being prosecuted for hate crimes in the Highland Park area of L.A. In the article there was a quote where one of the gangsters asks another, "Do you want to go kill a nigger?" I was shocked to read it in a paper. But it was powerful.

I think "N Word" is stupid. I think it gives the real word nigger more negative power. Acting like it doesn't exist.

I think it is interesting that when a movie is played on basic cable, words like shit or fuck are dubbed out. Words like nigger or kike or dike or faggot are often left intact. Not sure why, but they are.

But to the point of this thread, I wouldn't use the word nigger in a newspaper article unless the entire article was about the use of that word. Not sure when an editor would assign an enterprise piece about the common usage of the word, Im just saying for example.

Doesn't matter about the context. Doesn't matter if it is a quote. There is no need, just as others have posted, to use vulgar and infammatory language.
